Cumberland Council will introduce temporary road closures, rolling closures and waiting/loading restrictions to facilitate the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women 2026 – Stage 1 cycle race.

The restrictions are expected to be required for one day only, with individual roads affected for varying periods as the race progresses.

📍 Location of works / restrictions:
The event will affect roads across Cockermouth, Ullock, Arlecdon, Hensingham, Whitehaven, Lowca, High Harrington, Maryport, Silloth-on-Solway, Abbeytown, Wigton, Caldbeck and Aspatria.

⏱️ Key road closure periods

⚠️ 04:00–18:30 – Cockermouth

* B5292 Main Street
* C2064 Main Street
* Station Street

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C2064, C2028, A66 and A5086.

⚠️ 07:00–17:00 – Cockermouth

* South Street, from Station Street westwards for approximately 180m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of South Street, A5086, Station Road and B5292.

⚠️ 09:00–11:30 – Cockermouth

* Crown Street
* Sullart Street/Gallowbarrow

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A5086, A66 and A595.

⚠️ 14:00–15:45

* A595, from its junction with the A591 at Bothel to its junction with the A594 near Cockermouth.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A595, A66 and A591.

🚴 Rolling road closures:
From 10:40–16:30, a large number of roads will be subject to rolling closures as the race progresses, including sections of the B5292, C2027, A5086, C2030, C4006, C2054, B5295, A595, A5094, A597, A596, B5300, B5302, B5304, C2041, B5299, B5301, C2064, U2099, C2026, C2034 and A591.

🚫 Waiting / Loading Restrictions:
Additional No Waiting at Any Time / No Loading or Unloading restrictions will apply from 00:01–18:30 on affected sections in Ullock, Arlecdon, Hensingham, Whitehaven, Lowca, High Harrington, Maryport, Silloth-on-Solway, Abbeytown, Wigton, Caldbeck, Aspatria and Cockermouth. These restrictions also apply to disabled badge holders.

🚲 Pedestrians and cyclists:
Pedestrian access to premises will be maintained. The Order also allows vehicles and pedal cycles being used in connection with or to facilitate the event to operate within the restrictions.

🚨 Emergency Services:
The restrictions do not apply to police, fire or ambulance vehicles, emergency utility works, vehicles removing obstructions, or movements authorised by a police constable, civil enforcement officer or event traffic marshal.

🚴🚴Just a bit of an update to the road closures on Wednesday 19th August 🚴🚴

Be prepared for next Wednesday, as The Tour Of Britain launches in Cockermouth town centre. Below are brief details of road closures, parking options, and a link to the Cumberland Council's dedicated webpage. 🚴‍♀️ 🚴‍♀️

FULL ROAD CLOSURES - to accommodate the start and finish areas and infrastructure:
▪︎ Main Street and Station Street will be closed from 4am until 6.30pm.
▪︎ South Street will be closed from 7am until 5pm.
▪︎ Crown Street, Sullart Street and Gallowbarrow will also be closed between 9am and 11.30am.

Other roads on the route will be subject to rolling road closures, meaning traffic will be temporarily held for short periods.

PARKING OPTIONS - for residents, businesses and visitors:
▪︎ Riverside CA13 9NR (long stay).
▪︎ Lorton Street CA13 9RH (long stay).
▪︎ Cockermouth Rugby Club CA13 9XQ.
