A Case discussion

A young patient presented with a heavily restored, asymptomatic tooth that had lost over 60% of its natural tooth structure, but was keen to save it.

On assessment, the tooth was vital, with a large overhanging amalgam restoration, food trapping and radiographic evidence of bone loss.

Treatment carried out: Deep margin elevation (DME) and a strong core build-up to improve the marginal seal and provide a solid foundation for a future indirect restoration.

We’re now allowing a couple of weeks for the gums to heal and to ensure the tooth remains symptom-free before proceeding with the final restoration.
Long term guarded prognosis has been discussed with the patient.

With only a few weeks until his wedding, our patient wanted to enhance his smile and boost his confidence for one of the most important days of his life.
