These types of caries, which develop between teeth and are often challenging to spot with the naked eye, are now being more accurately detected through Al-assisted imaging analysis.
The Al system was trained on thousands of annotated radiographs, allowing it to detect subtle radiolucencies that indicate carious lesions-many of which were previously overlooked.
The researchers emphasize that this innovation enhances early detection, supports treatment planning, reduces human error, and can play a significant role in preventive dentistry. It also provides a standardized approach to diagnostics across different clinics and practitioners.
