🚨 Exciting New Technology at the Practice! 🚨

We’re proud to announce the installation of our brand new CBCT 3D Digital Scanner 🦷✨

This advanced technology allows us to capture highly detailed 3D images of the teeth, jaw, nerves, airways, and surrounding structures, helping us plan treatments with even greater precision and confidence.

How this benefits our patients:

✔️ More accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
✔️ Improved planning for dental implants and oral surgery
✔️ Enhanced assessment of teeth, bone, and jaw structure
✔️ Better detection of hidden dental issues not always visible on standard X-rays
✔️ Safer, more predictable treatment outcomes
✔️ More comprehensive and specialised patient care

Our new CBCT scanner helps us provide a higher level of precision across a range of treatments including:
🦷 Dental implants
🦷 Root canal treatment
🦷 Wisdom tooth assessment
🦷 Complex restorative dentistry

Investing in advanced digital technology is part of our ongoing commitment to providing our patients with modern, high quality dental care in a comfortable environment.

✨ Please join us in welcoming Rebecca to the team! ✨

Rebecca graduated from Cardiff University in 2016 and has built a wealth of experience across hospital, community, and general dental settings. Early in her career, she worked closely with anxious children, helping create positive and supportive dental experiences.

She later joined the Oral and Maxillofacial team at St George’s Hospital in London, where she gained valuable experience assisting with complex surgical procedures and emergency care.

Rebecca is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (MFDS) and has also completed advanced training in botulinum toxin treatments. Since joining Carshalton Park in 2019, she has built a strong reputation for her calm, patient-focused approach and commitment to high-quality care.

Passionate about helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles, Rebecca particularly enjoys Invisalign and cosmetic treatments including teeth whitening and teeth straightening. She takes pride in creating a relaxed and supportive environment where patients feel comfortable and cared for.

Outside of dentistry, Rebecca loves spending time outdoors with her family, travelling, baking, staying active, and discovering new places to eat with her husband and friends.

We’re delighted to have Rebecca on board and know our patients will love her warm and caring approach 💙

🦷 Gum (Periodontal) Treatment – NHS Wales Update

Under the new NHS dental system in Wales, care is focused on prevention and long-term oral health.

👉 You may be offered NHS gum treatment if:
✔ You have diagnosed gum disease (bleeding gums, bone loss, deep pockets)
✔ Treatment is clinically needed to keep your mouth healthy
⚠️You are willing to follow advice and improve your oral hygiene - important!

💡 NHS periodontal care is provided as part of a care package, not just a one-off clean.

⚠️ Important:
You are entitled to up to 2 courses of treatment per year on the NHS, so it’s important to make the most of your care.

👉 To benefit from treatment, you’ll need to:
🪥 Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste
🧵 Clean between your teeth every day
🚭 Reduce risk factors, (eg smoking, uncontrolled diabetes)
📅 Attend appointments and follow your care plan

💬 NHS care is based on clinical need and patient commitment. Your dental team will support you every step of the way.

🦷 Important Update: Changes to NHS Dentistry in Wales 🦷

From 1st April 2026, the Welsh NHS dental system has changed:

✅ Care Packages Replace the Old Banding System – Making your treatment simpler and clearer.
✅ Recall Intervals Updated – Healthy patients will now be seen every 18–24 months.
✅ Active Dental Disease – Patients with ongoing issues will be seen more frequently.
✅ New Patient Registration – All new patients must register through DAP (Dental Access Portal).
✅ Existing Patients – Anyone who hasn’t attended since 1st April 2023 will need to register on DAP to continue care.

We understand this may be frustrating for some patients. These changes are set by the Welsh Government and are out of our control. We kindly ask you to be patient with our staff as we navigate and adjust to the new contract.

📞 Ask our reception team for more details and to find out how these changes may affect you.

Before & After ✨

This patient presented to Dr Michael O’Brien with a failed crown on UL2. Unfortunately, the tooth was no longer restorable and had to be removed. As this was the patient’s only missing tooth, a partial denture wasn’t the most suitable long-term solution.

After discussing all options, the patient chose a dental implant, providing a fixed, natural looking replacement that restores both function and aesthetics.

The result? A seamless smile and renewed confidence 😁

If you’re facing a similar situation, get in touch to explore your options with Dr Michael O’Brien.
