Most people think dentistry is all drills and check-ups. Truth is, a lot of my days start right here - reviewing cases, planning treatments, answering patient questions, and making sure every detail is right before anyone even sits in the chair.

Jaw tension is often dismissed — until it starts affecting your day.

A tight jaw in the morning. Headaches that keep coming back. Teeth that feel sensitive for no clear reason.

These can all be signs of clenching or grinding — often happening while you sleep.

I regularly assess patients presenting with symptoms linked to jaw tension and bite stress, including:

🦷 Jaw soreness or fatigue
🦷 Morning headaches
🦷 Tooth wear or sensitivity
🦷 Clicking or discomfort in the jaw joint

A clinical assessment helps identify the underlying cause and determine appropriate management, which may include protective night guards and tailored dental advice.

📅 If these symptoms sound familiar, it’s worth getting checked sooner rather than later.

What’s less commonly discussed is what they actually change day-to-day.

For many patients, it’s not just about filling a gap — it’s about getting back things they’ve quietly adjusted their life around:

🦷 Eating without thinking twice about certain foods
🦷 Speaking or laughing without hesitation
🦷 Avoiding the constant awareness of a missing tooth
🦷 Feeling like their bite is stable again

Implants are designed to function like natural teeth once integrated, which means they don’t just restore appearance — they restore normality.

My treatment planning for implants always starts with a detailed assessment, because suitability, bone support, and long-term oral health all matter as much as the final result.

📅 If you’ve been “managing” a missing tooth rather than dealing with it, it may be worth a proper conversation about your options.

It’s not always obvious sugar that causes the most damage — some everyday foods can be more “tooth-unfriendly” than expected.

From a clinical perspective, I often highlight the following:

🥤 Flavoured waters & sports drinks
Often seen as a healthier choice, but many are acidic and can contribute to enamel wear over time.

🍇 Dried fruit
Sticky and naturally high in sugar, it tends to cling to teeth longer than fresh fruit.

🍞 White bread & refined carbohydrates
These break down into sugars quickly and can remain on the teeth after eating.

🍋 Citrus fruits (and lemon water)
Fine in moderation, but frequent exposure can soften enamel due to acidity.

🍬 “Sugar-free” sweets
Still often acidic, meaning enamel can be affected even without traditional sugar.

It’s not about avoiding these foods entirely — it’s about how often they’re consumed and how well oral hygiene is maintained afterwards.

✔ Rinse with water after acidic foods
✔ Avoid frequent snacking throughout the day
✔ Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste

Prevention plays a key role in maintaining long-term oral health, alongside regular dental care.

When a patient comes in for an implant consultation, my focus is simple: clarity, suitability, and planning.

We start with a full assessment of your oral health, including gums, remaining teeth, bite, and bone levels. I also take time to understand your medical history and your expectations—because success isn’t just about placing an implant, it’s about ensuring it integrates properly into your overall oral health.

From there, we discuss whether implants are appropriate for you, what the treatment would involve step by step, realistic timelines, and any alternatives that may be more suitable in your case.

No pressure. No assumptions. Just a clear clinical discussion so you can make an informed decision.

That simply isn’t true.

Recall intervals are not “one size fits all.” They should be based on individual risk—your gum health, decay history, oral hygiene, diet, smoking status, and even medical conditions all play a role.

For some patients, six months is appropriate. For others, three months is necessary. And for many with stable, healthy mouths, longer intervals are perfectly safe.

My approach is simple: I tailor recall intervals to the patient, not the calendar.
When was the last time you had a check up?

I still see it far too often—teeth being used as bottle openers, packet rippers, even “quick tools” for jobs they were never designed for.

Let me be clear: I don’t recommend it. Your teeth are for chewing, not improvising.

Every time you use them as tools, you risk chips, fractures, and expensive repairs that could easily be avoided. A moment of convenience can turn into a long-term problem—and I’ve had to fix more than a few of those over the years.

If it doesn’t belong in your mouth as food, it doesn’t belong between your teeth.
