Thank you to all our patients for your support and understanding during the coronavirus pandemic.
As usual, we are working hard to care for all of our patients.
We are doing our best to work through the backlog that built up since the end of March closure and the reopening in June and we are working to soon be able to contact you for recall examinations. We will send you a text message or email when we are able to offer you an appointment. For children and under 18s we are able to offer recall examinations now. Please ensure we have your up to date details along with an email address when you contact reception.
We are able to offer emergency appointments and this will initially be by telephone triage with a dentist.
Due to current Coronavirus guidelines we can only offer limited time slots per day for treatments involving “aerosol generating procedures (AGP’s)” - these involve for example the use of a high - speed drill and /or ultrasonic scalers. These procedures can only be booked following an examination of your mouth and/or discussion of treatment options with a dentist.
At this time we are unable to see patients with confirmed or possible cases of Coronavirus, anyone who shares a household with such cases or anyone who is self-isolating. These will be referred to an urgent dental centre, if appropriate after telephone triage with one of our dentists.
Many things have changed in the last few months but as always one thing remains the same, which is our commitment to the safety of all our staff and patients. Infection control remains a top priority and our processes ensure you will continue to remain safe when you visit us. We are up to date with new guidance that has been issued and our infection control procedures ensure we are compliant with regulations.
We ask that you please wear a mask when you visit the surgery, and only remove this once in the dental chair.

Important Announcement

The re-opening of The Terrace Dental Practice

You may have already heard that practices can reopen from the 8th June 2020.

The Terrace Dental Practice will re-open on the 12th June but we wanted to be clear that this will not be business as usual. It will take some time before services return to what you previously experienced. Please be patient.

Initially we will be seeing patients with emergency problems or other dental problems that require urgent assessment and treatment, including those that contacted us during lockdown that we could not see face to face.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our surgery. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our practice follows infection control guidelines made by the governing bodies. We are up-to-date on new guidance that has been issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to recommendations.

Our Practice will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You may be asked the same questions again at your appointment.

Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing. This means that you will be offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.

How you can help:

When travelling to the practice, we would recommend that you limit close contact with other members of the public as far as possible. We will meet all patients outside the building and bring them straight into the surgery. One adult is able to attend with a child; please do not bring additional family members with you unless they are happy to wait in the car or outside the building.

We ask where possible, that you have already visited the lavatory at home, have ensured that you are hydrated and have already brushed your teeth to minimise possible sources of disease transmission.

We intend to eliminate waiting inside the practice and at reception. Accordingly, appointments will be staggered so that patients do not arrive or leave at the same time as other patients as far as we are able to manage.

Where possible we will ask you to wait in your car and will call your mobile phone you when it is time to attend your appointment. If you do not have a mobile phone we ask you attend at the time of your appointment and not before to prevent waiting in communal areas as much as possible

Where possible we ask you bring a limited number of items to your appointment.

We will ask you to use hand sanitiser in the hallway and will direct you straight to the surgery.

We may ask you to use a Hydrogen Peroxide mouthwash before some dental treatments are provided

To minimise patients in the reception area, at the end of your appointment should you require a further appointment, we ask that you do not to go back into reception. We will call you later to make these arrangements. We will also be operating contactless payment systems going forwards, and we would request that payment is made over the phone for your appointment prior to you attending.

Please only call the practice if you are in severe pain. Unfortunately, no routine check-ups or treatment can be booked at this time.

This policy will be constantly reviewed and updated as necessitated by circumstances over time.

Once again we are incredibly grateful for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times and we look forward to seeing you all again as soon as possible

Kind Regards

Daily life for everyone around the world has changed dramatically in a short space of time. As things begin to normalise it is important that we reflect and try to adapt to ensure that we take control and change the things we know will keep us safe. Things like washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and avoiding unnecessary travel or contact with others.

Your oral health continues to be important and although we should be more cautious going forward, we should not let recent events cause us to neglect this.

At The Terrace Dental Practice the most important thing is patient safety and comfort, and that is why we have introduced the following measures to keep people safe while at the practice.

We will be booking your appointments to ensure that the Practice and waiting areas are not overcrowded. We will do this by leaving suitable gaps between appointments, making sure that you can attend the practice while maintaining a suitable distance from one another in accordance with government guidelines.

We may also be creating clinics for patients who are most vulnerable, to help minimize contact with others for this group whilst they are at the practice.

To further avoid overcrowding when you arrive at the practice, we may ask that you wait in your car or in a safe place outside of the practice until called in. We will notify you via your phone when you should enter the practice.

You will be required to fill in all relevant forms on your electronic device, before you enter the practice. This means that you will not have to touch a pen, paper, or any electronic device other than your own when you attend your appointment. This crucial step greatly reduces touch points at the practice.

Between all appointments the dental team will thoroughly disinfect the dental surgery, reducing the risk of patient exposure to anything harmful while they are in the chair.

And finally, as you leave the practice, we will ask that you pay by card, preferably contactless.

If you have any further questions about these measures, or anything else prior to your appointment, please contact us.

Kind regards and stay safe

We hope you are well and keeping safe in these unprecedented times.
As many of you are aware, we are no longer able to provide routine dental treatment due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Here at The Terrace Dental Practice, we would like to provide you with some general oral health advice to help keep your teeth, gums and oral health in top condition until we can see each other again:
• Brush your teeth twice a day with Fluoride toothpaste for at least 2 minutes at a time, to keep your teeth and mouth healthy
• Floss or use interdental brushes every day to remove food, debris and plaque that may have become lodged between your teeth
• Try to avoid sugary foods and drinks as much as possible. Try some healthier alternatives when snacking such as cheese and plain yogurt
• Drink more water. This can help wash out some of the negative effects of sticky and acidic foods and beverages in between brushes

For dental emergencies please contact the Practice, where we can advise you on the best course of action.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COVID-19

Due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, all dental practices in the UK have been advised to cease all routine dentistry, this is to reduce person to person contact and patient safety. In the event of a dental emergency during normal working hours the practice is open to give telephone advice from a dentist. Out of normal working hours please call the East Lancashire Dental Helpline on 0300 123 4010. Telephone messages are being monitored throughout the day. Thankyou for your understanding.
