Inlay, onlay and dental crown are different types of restorations used in dentistry to treat damaged teeth. Here’s the difference between them:
1.** Inlay **:
- It is a restoration used when the cavity or damage to the tooth is not very extensive.
- An inlay is manufactured out of the patient’s mouth, usually in a dental laboratory, and then cemented into the tooth.
- it fills in a limited area of the tooth, being more conservative than a crown.
2. ** Onlay **:
- Similar to an inlay, but covers a larger area of the tooth.
- It is used when the caries or damage is a little more extensive, but it does not yet require a full crown.
3. ** Dental Crown **
- Also known as “cap”, is a restoration that covers the entire tooth.
- It is used when the tooth is severely damaged or weakened, often after an extensive canal treatment, fracture or caries.
- The crown protects and strengthens the tooth.
Basically, the choice between inlay, onlay and crown depends on the extent of the damage to the tooth. If it’s a minor injury, an inlay may suffice. For slightly larger damages, an onlay may be more appropriate. However, if the damage is extensive and the tooth is weakened, a crown is needed to restore its form, function and resistance. Keep in mind that the final recommendation will depend on the dentist’s assessment, who will consider your tooth’s specific situation.
At we make the Onlay/ Inlay/Crown in house (same day).

✨ Few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of attending an incredible course with the renowned speaker Adam Morgan! ✨

As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence, we were guided through the TCO Journey – Treatment Coordinator pathway, learning invaluable strategies to better support our patients every step of the way.

This training empowered us with new techniques and communication skills to help our patients feel more confident, informed, and cared for when choosing the best treatment options.

🦷 We’re excited to put this knowledge into practice and continue delivering the highest standard of care!
