From April 2026, the Welsh Government plans to introduce a new model for NHS dental care. Here’s what it could mean for you:

🪥 No more practice registration – once deemed “stable,” you will be placed on a central waiting list.

🚘 No guarantee of seeing your usual dentist – you may be directed anywhere within your health board.

📂 Records won’t follow you – no shared notes or x-rays, making it harder to track long-term conditions like gum disease or tooth wear.

⏳ Longer intervals between appointments, potentially exceeding NICE guidelines.

👧 Children and anxious patients will be most affected – unfamiliar settings and faces can heighten anxiety.

💷 Rising NHS dental charges expected

📣 Although the consultation is now closed, it’s important to stay informed and continue the conversation.
Talk to your local representatives, stay updated — and don’t be afraid to ask questions at your next appointment.
