Plaque is constantly forming on our teeth. While it’s still soft, thorough brushing and interdental cleaning can help remove it.

But plaque that remains on the teeth can eventually harden into tartar.

Once that happens, reaching for your toothbrush and giving your teeth an extra-hard scrub isn’t the answer — tartar requires professional removal.

A consistent daily routine is one of the simplest things you can do to look after your teeth and gums.

Brush. Clean between. Keep up with your dental care.

Meet Dr Rushabh Shah 👋🦷

Known as Rush to his patients and colleagues, Dr Shah is passionate about restorative and cosmetic dentistry, with a focus on creating healthy, confident smiles through high-quality, minimally invasive care.

After qualifying from the University of Bristol in 2019, Rush has continued to invest extensively in his postgraduate education. He is a full Invisalign provider and has completed the prestigious one-year Certificate in Cosmetic Dentistry and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry with Dr Chris Orr, alongside numerous additional courses in modern dental techniques and materials.

But for Rush, great dentistry starts with the person, not simply their teeth.

His calm, friendly and easy-going approach means taking the time to listen to each patient’s concerns and goals before creating a considered, bespoke treatment plan focused on both long-term oral health and aesthetics.

When he’s not in the practice, you’ll find Rush travelling, playing sports or spending time with friends and family.

🦷 Treating your teeth like scissors
Packets, tags, bottle tops — reach for the proper tool instead. Your teeth weren’t designed for the job.

🪥 Thinking harder = cleaner
Aggressive brushing isn’t a shortcut to a healthier mouth. Slow down, ease up on the pressure and focus on technique.

🩸 Getting used to bleeding gums
If it happens regularly, it deserves attention rather than becoming something you simply accept.

Your daily habits make a difference — and sometimes the smallest changes are the easiest place to start.

Here’s your reminder that teeth don’t need to be brilliant white to be healthy.

The shade of natural teeth varies from person to person — and colour alone can’t tell us what’s happening with your dental health.

That’s why we look at the bigger picture.

Your gums. Your teeth. Your bite. Any changes since we last saw you. And, importantly, anything that might need attention before it starts causing trouble.

Wanting a whiter smile is absolutely fine — but when it comes to your oral health, there’s much more to consider than colour.

"This is by far the best dental group I have been to. Genevieve is an incredible dentist. The smile makeover she did for me several years ago has been the best money I have ever spent!
I had a hygienist appointment with Natalie this week. She gave me great advice and removed years of stains from my teeth. I am amazed at the difference she has made.
Everyone at the practice is professional and friendly. I wouldn't go anywhere else."

“I wouldn’t go anywhere else.” 🤍

What wonderful feedback for Genevieve, Natalie and the team. From a smile makeover to ongoing hygiene care, it means so much to know we’ve made such a lasting difference.

This transformation was a journey — and what a result! 😍

Our patient came to Crown Street Dental looking to improve both the alignment and appearance of their smile. With several different elements to consider, a carefully planned combination of treatments was used to bring everything together.

The journey included:
🦷 Orthodontic treatment to align the teeth
🦷 Surgical removal of impacted canines
✨ Professional teeth whitening
✨ Composite bonding to enhance shape and symmetry
🦷 Two temporary adhesive bridges while the tissues heal ahead of dental implant treatment

The result so far is a brighter, beautifully balanced smile — and a very happy patient!

Giving up smoking can help you say goodbye to one of the causes of:
🦷 Tooth staining
🌬️ Bad breath
🪥 Gum disease

And importantly, smoking is also associated with an increased risk of mouth cancer.

Whether it’s your first attempt at quitting or you’ve tried before, deciding to give it another go is something worth celebrating. 💪

Here’s to a smoke-free October and a positive step for your oral and overall health.

We’re cheering you on! 💙

Those delicious syrups, sugars and sweet toppings can quickly turn an everyday coffee into quite the treat, while regular tea and coffee drinkers may notice staining building up over time.

Our tip? Enjoy the cosy stuff, but try to keep sweeter drinks to mealtimes rather than sipping them throughout the day — and make water your go-to in between. 💧🦷

Because autumn is far too short to skip the hot chocolate altogether! 🍁

A tooth may need to be extracted because of:

🔹 Severe tooth decay – when there isn’t enough healthy tooth remaining to restore it successfully.

🔹 Advanced gum disease – if the supporting tissues and bone have been significantly affected and the tooth has become very loose.

🔹 Infection or repeated problems – particularly when other treatment options aren’t suitable or haven’t been successful.

🔹 A badly damaged or fractured tooth – where the tooth cannot be predictably repaired.

🔹 Problematic wisdom teeth – for example, when they are impacted and causing problems such as repeated infections, decay or damage to neighbouring teeth.

🔹 Orthodontic treatment – occasionally, a tooth may need to be removed to create the space required to achieve the best result.

Every tooth is different, which is why we’ll always assess your individual circumstances and discuss your options before recommending an extraction.

When we talk about dental implants, the conversation often starts with appearance. But replacing a missing tooth can be about much more than how your smile looks.

A dental implant is designed to provide a stable foundation for a replacement tooth, helping to restore function so you can eat and smile with confidence.

And there’s another important consideration: your jawbone.

After a tooth is lost, the bone in that area can gradually reduce over time. Because an implant is placed within the jawbone, it can help maintain the bone around the implant.

At Crown Street Dental, we carefully assess each patient to determine whether dental implants are a suitable option and create a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs.
