Not the best photos as it’s not easy taking pictures inside the mouth of an unbroken giant Irish youngster!

This 3yo was due his second ever routine dental rasp recently in preparation for commencing his ridden career.
He wasn’t showing any signs of discomfort whilst eating and there was no obvious signs of any dental issues.
On examination I quickly realised there was indeed an issue.
One of his deciduous caps (baby teeth) had fractured and then rotated towards the tongue. Therefore it was still attached to the gum but the sharp point had caused a large ulceration on the tongue-zoom in on the photos of the tongue to see.

I removed what was left of the deciduous cap to allow healing of the tongue. The relief was instant.

This just shows how important it is to have routine dental checks of every horse from 2 years old onwards. Horses often don’t show any signs of pain so it is our jobs as owners to ensure they are in fact comfortable.

I’d just like to thank everyone who’s recently tried to book in for your patience. I’ve been having a few car issues followed by some equipment failure. This is highly frustrating as I pride myself on my reliability!
