🦷 What is an overjet & does it need treatment?
An overjet describes how far the upper front teeth sit in front of the lower front teeth. A small amount is completely normal, but when the overjet is increased, it may affect more than just the appearance of your smile.
Depending on the individual, an increased overjet can be associated with a greater risk of injury to the front teeth and may affect the bite and function.
The good news? There are different treatment options available 💙 Treatment depends on several factors, including the cause of the overjet, its severity and whether the patient is still growing.
For children and teenagers, assessing the bite while the jaws are still developing can sometimes provide additional treatment options. Adults can also be treated successfully, although significant jaw discrepancies may require a combination of orthodontics and jaw surgery.
