Closure of Glansevern Periodontal Centre🦷🪥
Over the last five years, the practice has thrived, grown, and developed into a successful referral practice, supporting dentists and patients far and wide with the most complex cases of periodontal disease. Between Dr. Devan Raindi, our Specialist Periodontist, and myself, we have been able to offer a very much needed service in the region.
During this time, I have been the practice owner and sole hygienist at Glansevern Periodontal Centre. In addition, I have been the practice manager, which has required a significant and increasing amount of time outside of my full-time clinical hours to keep the practice operational and compliant.
Sadly, on Friday the 29th of July 2022, the practice closed.
The Covid Pandemic was a testing time for the practice, as it was for many other dentists and businesses. It presented an immense task to become operational again following the strict and very necessary guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety. Resultantly, the costs of running the practice have escalated and this has compelled me to review my work/life balance and carefully consider my options going forwards. I have been looking to recruit additional staff members since early this year to spread the workload, including the possible utilization of the second surgery with another full-time clinician. However, the current national shortage of dental personnel has made finding suitable staff very difficult and despite our unrelenting efforts, our searches have been unsuccessful. It had become clear that the increased cost of running the practice and additional staff costs whilst working as sole clinician make the financial viability of the practice questionable.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported the practice and especially to my wonderful patients who have put their trust, loyalty and support in me over the many years as their hygienist.
Although it saddens me greatly for the closure of Glansevern Periodontal Centre, I am still very passionate about my profession as a hygienist and know that I still have a lot to offer. After a short break, I will be returning to Dental Hygiene at another practice.
I have been very fortunate to have had Megan working with me for 4 years. She has been reliable, very supportive, knowledgeable and has an excellent understanding of my work ethics and the operation of the practice. Many of you will already know that Megan is expecting her first baby very soon and is starting her maternity leave at the beginning of August. I wish her the very best and thank Megan for her dedication to the practice.
