What a fantastic day at the Dentistry Show!

We arrived as the doors opened and were still there when they closed, making the most of every minute. From inspiring seminars and the latest innovations in dentistry, to speaking with exhibitors and industry experts, it was a brilliant opportunity to learn, network, and bring back fresh ideas for our patients and team.

Days like this remind us how important continued learning and innovation are in delivering the very best patient care. We’re excited to put some of what we discovered into practice at Widcombe Dental over the coming months!

In particular we loved the ice cream from and are inspired by their vision, bringing joy to the everyday!

Before we show you where we're going, we want to remind you where we've been. 1978 is the year the Dental Practice was born. It was converted from a shop and office. Pauls Dad, Richard Vivian took over in 1981 and he built something the community trusted - appointment by appointment, family by family, decade by decade.

When Richard retired in 2012, Paul and Sally took it on. They started small. The two of them, a Dental Nurse, their black labrador Scarlet, and more ambition than they probably let on. That was then. Next month, you'll see what that ambition has grown into. Est 1978. Still here. Still growing.

We've been a little quiet lately. Not because there's nothing to say. Quite the opposite. Something is happening behind the scenes at the practice. Something we've been working on for a while. Something that, when we show it to you, we think you're going to understand immediately.

We're getting ready to share it. Our brand is getting a new look - a new outfit that finally reflects who we are.

In the meantime, we're still here. Still doing what we do. Just getting ready to do it a little louder. Watch this space.

Chocolate causing sensitivity? It’s not just you.

Sugar feeds bacteria that weaken enamel, exposing the tooth and triggering that sharp twinge.

Rinse after treats, keep brushing, and don’t ignore sensitivity.

🦷 MYTH: Toothache means the tooth needs to come out.
🦷 FACT: Most painful teeth can be treated and saved - especially when caught early!

Modern dentistry is focused on preserving natural teeth wherever possible.

Fillings, root canal treatment, or gum treatment can often resolve the issue without losing the tooth.

The earlier you act, the more options you have

🦷 Myth Vs Fact: Pain Gone = Problem Gone? 🦷

MYTH: If the pain goes away, the problem is gone.
FACT: Pain can stop when the nerve inside the tooth dies, but the infection is still there.

Just because it’s stopped hurting doesn’t mean it’s healed.
In fact, it can mean the opposite.

When a tooth “goes quiet”, infection can continue spreading beneath the surface, sometimes leading to swelling, abscess, or more complex treatment later.

If you’ve had toothache that suddenly disappeared, it’s still worth getting checked.

Don’t ignore the warning signs.

🦷 Dental Myths Vs Facts 🦷

MYTH: Putting aspirin directly on the tooth cures toothache.
FACT: Aspirin can burn your gum tissue and won’t fix the cause of the pain.

We still hear this advice floating around but it’s not safe.

Toothache is usually caused by decay, infection, or inflammation inside the tooth.
Placing aspirin on the gum won’t treat that and can cause chemical burns leading to mouth ulcers.

We can help get rid of the pain associated with toothache

If in doubt, give us a call

🦷National Toothache Day🦷

A toothache is your body’s way of saying ‘something’s not right’, and it’s not something to ignore.

From sensitivity and sharp pain to a constant dull ache, toothache can be caused by:

Tooth Decay

Infection or abscess

Cracked Teeth

Gum Disease

The good news? The earlier it’s checked, the simpler the treatment usually is.

If you’re experiencing tooth pain - even if it comes and goes - get it looked at before it becomes an emergency.
