It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dentist, Schalk 🕊️
After a short and complicated battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday 26th August.
We are aware that some of his patients may wish to send cards of condolence, which can be delivered to the surgery and passed on to his family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time and we appreciate your respect for their loss.

We are aware that an announcement was made last night to the general public that Dental practices will be re-opening from 8th June for face-to-face appointments. As a dental profession, we were only made aware of this change at the same time as the public; the guidance we have received so far advises us to risk-assess the re-opening of our practice for face-to-face treatments and to make necessary changes in order for a phased re-start of our services. Whilst we are keen to start seeing patients again, safety of our patients & staff, is and will remain, our highest priority in our extremely close proximity roles. We appreciate that there have been many patients who have been triaged by our team during this lock down and we assure you that you will be prioritised when we are able to commence face-to-face appointments again.

We want to make patients aware that several meetings have been planned for next week in which management will be creating protocol & procedure documents for both patients and staff, based on the restrictions we will be given, to explain how we intend to re-start face-to-face appointments and dental treatment, whilst maintain social distancing and following guidance from NHS England and PHE (Public Health England).

At this time, we are unfortunately still unable to book future appointments, as they will be greatly affected by the outcome of further guidance and protocols. When we are able to commence face-to-face appointments, we will update our patients with further information and changes as soon as possible.

We remind patients that we are still open and will still be available for telephone triage, as we have been since lock-down began and we continue to appreciate the support and understanding shown by our patients and staff during this difficult and unusual time.

We would like to update our patients on the current situation for Dental Practices across the UK, following the Prime Minister’s announcement last night.

We have been advised by British Dental Association this morning, that there are NO CURRENT CHANGES in the advice to Dental Practices from NHS England or CQC. This means until any further guidance is given, we must continue to operate on a Triage only basis and we are still unable to see patients in practice at this time.

We will, as always, be keeping up to date with any changes in the Guidance and will ensure our patients are aware of any changes to our services.

In a recent update from NHS England, it has been stressed to ALL Primary care dental practices, that unless identified as a regional UDC, we must not see any patient face to face in practice.
Following the initial guidance set out by NHS England, we had already ceased treatment and appointments from 30th March as advised and have been contacting patients on a week by week basis of these cancellations.

We are currently running an Urgent Care Triage Service from the practice, which provides triage over the phone ONLY including advice, pain management and antibiotics if required.
If you are a REGISTERED patient, who requires urgent triage during these uncertain times, please call the practice on 01582 882600 and our team will be happy to help.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our patients for their understanding and support at this difficult time for us all, and we wish to re-assure you that we are still open for telephone triage should you need us!
We are incredibly proud of our Dental team; who continue to provide dental care to the best of their abilities within the new restrictions placed on their roles, and those staff members who have volunteered to work in the wider NHS or have provided support for local businesses within our community.

There is currently no guidance or advice on when dental services will be able to resume in primary care practices, However, we are keeping a close eye on updates from the Government and NHS England, which will allow us to keep all our patients up-to-date with any developments and changes.

We hope for the safety of all our patients and staff during this time and we remind everyone to follow social distancing measures to: Stay Home, protect our NHS and Save Lives.
