🦷 Does a cold drink, hot coffee or something sweet give your teeth a shock?
Tooth sensitivity is very common and can be caused by:
• Brushing too vigorously
• Grinding or clenching your teeth
• Acidic foods and drinks
• Stomach acid from reflux or regurgitation
• Gum recession or tooth wear
Sensitivity can sometimes be managed with toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth;
Brush as normal using an electric toothbrush with gentle pressure, avoid scrubbing, then rub a small amount of sensitive toothpaste directly onto the affected area before bedtime.
Depending on the cause, your dentist may recommend professional desensitising treatment or a small tooth-coloured filling to protect the exposed area.
If sensitivity continues, always have it checked. Your dentist can ensure there is no decay, assess for cracks and assess whether any tooth wear is getting close to the nerve.
