FTA's (Failed to attend) ❌
In March, we had 172 patients miss their appointment, some of which were longer appointments for more complex treatments, some even for emergency appointments or treatment.

The total time lost in January for failed appointments was 44 hours and 30 minutes.
This is the equivalent of over 267 check-ups or more than 12 working days of surgery time being lost.

As you are aware, NHS dental treatment is in extremely high demand in Barnsley. These appointments could have been offered to other patients in need of an emergency appointment, or patients who have been waiting to be seen for a general check-up if they had been cancelled with sufficient notice.
Repeated missed appointments may result in the cancellation of your registration with the practice.
For children's appointments, we follow the NHS was not brought (WNB) guidelines, which require us to carefully record and review missed appointments to help ensure children's wellbeing and continued access to dental care.

To help us provide the best possible service, we ask that you:
- Attend all appointments on time
- Inform us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or rearrange (ideally with 24 hours’ notice)

If you are unable to attend your appointment, you can let us know by contacting the practice on 01226 207444 or alternatively 01226 492479.
We do send reminders on both email and text (let us know your preference), so remember to check your inbox or spam folder - and update us if your phone number, email, or preference ever changes!πŸ“±πŸ“¨
Thank you from the team at Oaksmere 🦷πŸͺ₯

πŸŽ„βœ¨ Don’t let Santa find sugary smiles this Christmas! βœ¨πŸ¦·πŸŽ„

With all the festive treats, chocolate, and fizzy drinks around, it’s easy for little (and big!) teeth to get forgotten. But keeping up with brushing twice a day is more important than ever over the holidays!

πŸ‘Ά For our little ones:
Make brushing fun by using a Christmas timer, playing a favourite song, or letting them choose their own festive toothbrush. Even elves need sparkling smiles!

βœ… Brush twice a day for 2 minutes
βœ… Don’t forget before bed (even after Christmas parties!)
βœ… Stick to water or milk between treats
βœ… Schedule some tooth-friendly snack breaks

Let’s start the new year with happy, healthy smiles! 😁✨

🦷 Is your child aged 5 or under?
Has it been over 12 months since their last dental checkup β€” or have they never been to the dentist before?

Oakesmere Dental Surgery is here to help! πŸ˜„βœ¨

Routine dental checkups are so important for your child’s health.
Did you know…
⭐ By age 5, 29% of children in South Yorkshire have experienced tooth decay β€” higher than the national average.
⭐ Tooth decay is the most common reason for primary school children needing hospital treatment under general anaesthetic.
⭐ Children should start visiting the dentist from 6 months old or as soon as their first tooth appears!

πŸ“ž Give us a call on 01226 207444
Our team is ready to support you and your little one.
If you are a parent of a child ages 0-5 and haven’t been seen in over 24 months either, let us know β€” we may be able to help with that too!
