It’s national smile month which means keeping that smile for longer!
We wanted to share some important advice on how to keep that smile:
Obvious but important to brush your teeth twice a day- morning and last thing at night.
There is research to show 1 in 4 adults in the UK do not do this! It is so important to remove plaque at the beginning of the day after a period of sleeping and the end of the night .
Do you teeth feel clingy in the morning?
Ever wake up and feel like your teeth aren’t as smooth as they should be? That’s very normal—and it comes down to what happens while you sleep.
At night, your body produces much less saliva. Saliva is your mouth’s natural cleaning system, so when levels drop:
💧 Less washing away of bacteria
🦠 More plaque (a sticky biofilm) builds up
😮 Morning breath becomes more noticeable
😬 Teeth can feel “coated” or fuzzy
It can be even more noticeable if you:
🍬 Eat or drink sugary foods late at night
😴 Sleep with your mouth open
💨 Have a dry sleeping environment
Good news: it’s preventable
✔️ Brush for 2 minutes before bed
✔️ Clean between teeth (floss or interdental brushes)
✔️ Avoid late-night sugary snacks
✔️ Stay well hydrated during the day
A good bedtime routine makes a big difference to how your mouth feels in the morning!
