It has come to our attention that recent letters from the Practice have not been delivered by Royal Mail and that patients are being asked to pay a £2.50 charge in order to obtain this letter. Following investigation, we have established that the reason for this is that the stamps applied to the letter (purchased legitimately from Amazon UK) are in fact fake. We ask any patients who have received a Royal Mail 'chit' asking to collect a letter and pay an excess charge to ignore this and contact the Practice instead on 01241 879951. For any patients who have already collected their letter and paid the charge, again please contact the Practice so a refund may be arranged.

We have reported this situation to Amazon UK and Royal Mail in the meantime. May we extend our apologies to anyone affected by this completely unintentional situation.

A quick update to reconfirm the ongoing arrangements within the Practice with regard to Covid safety and compliance. The following is the most recent communication from the Scottish Government regarding Covid management within healthcare settings -

“The Scottish Government is currently reviewing the physical distancing requirements for health and social care settings in Scotland. In the meantime, until and unless further notified, all primary care providers should continue to follow the current guidance relating to physical distancing measures.”

Whilst we understand that there may be some confusion as most other sectors of society have exited restrictions, the guidance for healthcare sectors remains as before. We are aware that this may create a degree of 'frustration' surrounding any appointment where you may be asked to follow specific instructions by staff (such as hand sanitisation, mask wearing etc) as this may now differ from other areas of society. However, we continue to appreciate your continued compliance and our staff are only operating to that which is required as directed.

Healthcare centres and particularly Dental Surgeries are by definition one of the highest risk sectors to engage with currently and patient and staff safety remains paramount. Therefore we thank you for your continued co-operation in this ongoing difficult environment.

For information the Practice will be closed all day on Friday 30th July 2022. This is due to water supply essential maintenance by Scottish Water in the Keptie Street area scheduled to run from 0900-1730.

For acute emergencies on the day, patients are asked to contact 01241 879951 and follow the instructions provided.

Please accept our apologies for this which regretfully is outwith our control.

Covid19 Update

As it it some time since we posted an update we thought it would be useful to provide a brief resume of the current situation.

The environment surrounding the provision of dentistry has not regretfully particularly changed in the first part of this year. As before, we are currently continuing to try to progress through our outstanding check ups and treatments created by the Covid19 lockdown in Mar 2020. The impact of this backlog cannot be overstated particularly as it is compounded by the limitations imposed on practices in general in terms of number of patients that can be seen daily, Covid safe protocols which must be followed etc. As previously, we are working our way through our outstanding examinations on a chronological basis and when we are ready to invite you in for a check up, we will be in contact. As always however, and to re-stress, should any patient suffer a dental emergency, please do not hesitate to contact us. Emergencies continue to be seen on a same day basis and we ask that anyone who feels they require to be seen by a dentist, contact us early in a day in order to facilitate appointment allocation. Should you have a problem and leave contacting us until late in an afternoon we likely will be unable to see you that day.

We have had some enquiries from patients under the impression that as Scotland moves through the Covid Tier system and general restrictions are lifted that the provision of dentistry will return immediately back to 'normal' also. Unfortunately this is not the case. The restrictions in how we currently operate are independent of the Tier system and subject to different procedures imposed by the Scottish Government. The reasons for these are many and varied but will remain for some time to come regretfully. As a practice, we are just as frustrated at operating under these conditions, but to highlight how important this matter is over and above general health concerns over virus transmission is the fact that breach of these current practicing regulations would likely lead to disciplinary action by higher bodies on the dentist concerned. So consequently in summary, even once a region enters Covid Tier Level 0, this will have no direct impact on how we operate.

For further information, the Practice will be closed from Fri 4th June until Mon 14th June while we undergo major refurbishment and engineering work in one of our surgeries. As always however, should you suffer a dental emergency in this time and feel it requires the attention of a dentist please contact 01241 879951 and follow the instructions provided.

We will continue to update as further information arises but in the meantime enjoy the long overdue sunshine and have a great weekend!
