It’s Ortho Monday, and time for Myth Buster No. 3.
MYTH: Braces are only for teenagers.
There’s no upper age limit for wanting to improve your smile, but orthodontics is about much more than age.
For adults, the important starting point is the health of the teeth, gums and supporting bone. Previous dental treatment, missing teeth, crowns or implants can also influence what we can achieve and how treatment should be planned.
And braces don’t necessarily mean traditional fixed braces either. Depending on what needs to be corrected, options can include fixed braces or more discreet clear aligners.
Every Monday, Jayne dedicates her day to orthodontics at Gunning Dental, treating patients of all ages and with all manner of orthodontic problems.
Whether you’re 14 or 54, the principle is the same: understand the starting point, decide what we want to achieve, and choose the right treatment to get there.
