“I have nothing but praise for Nick and the team at NB Dental. I started seeing Nick around 12 months ago when I developed a cavity that needed treatment. I explained that I was a nervous patient having had a traumatic experience at the dentist when I was younger. Nick took the time to explain everything to me, developing a full treatment plan and completing the cavity treatment. Since that initial visit and the confidence instilled in me through the care and professionalism of all the team, I have since had numerous treatments restoring my dental health to the best it can possibly be. I have genuinely enjoyed the care and quality of the treatments provided coupled with the friendly, caring nature of every member of staff at
the surgery. I look forward to the team looking after me for many years to come.”

Understanding Crossbites: More than just aesthetics.

A crossbite occurs when you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth sit inside your lower teeth, rather than on the outside. While often seen as a cosmetic concern, an uncorrected crossbite can impact your long-term oral health. If left unaddressed, the uneven pressure of a crossbite can lead to:

 Structural Wear: Increased risk of teeth chipping or wearing down prematurely.
 Gum Health Issues: Potential for gum recession or small "notches" forming near the gum line.
 Long-term Complications: In some cases, persistent misalignment can contribute to bone loss or painful gum inflammation.

Exploring Solutions At NB Dental in Alton, we focus on descriptive, clinically-led care to help protect your dental health. For those looking to correct a crossbite, SureSmile® Aligners offer a modern, clear alternative to traditional braces. SureSmile technology uses precise 3D imaging to create a custom-fit plan designed to gradually move your teeth into a more functional alignment.

Is SureSmile right for you? Every smile is different. We invite you to book a clinical consultation to discuss whether clear aligners are a suitable option for your specific dental anatomy.

You might be experiencing bruxism—the involuntary grinding, gnashing, or clenching of teeth. This often
happens during sleep, meaning many people are unaware of the habit until symptoms begin to surface. Common Signs of Bruxism......

 Worn Tooth Enamel: Flattened, fractured, or chipped teeth.
 Increased Sensitivity: Teeth that feel tender to hot or cold temperatures.
 Jaw Muscle Fatigue: A tight or tired jaw, or difficulty opening the mouth fully.
 Disrupted Sleep: Waking up feeling unrefreshed or having caused a partner's sleep to be disturbed by grinding noises.
 Facial Pain: Dull headaches starting in the temples or earache-like discomfort. #

While the exact causes vary between individuals, bruxism is frequently linked to:

 Physical Factors: An abnormal bite or missing/misaligned teeth.
 Lifestyle Factors: High levels of stress or anxiety, as well as the consumption of caffeine or alcohol before bed.
 Sleep Disorders: Conditions such as sleep apnoea can sometimes be associated with grinding.

If left unmanaged, chronic grinding can lead to significant dental wear, damage to dental restorations, and strain on the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Identifying the signs early is key to maintaining your long-term oral health. Have you ever experienced jaw tension or noticed changes in your tooth surfaces? If you are concerned about dental wear or facial discomfort, our team at NB Dental in Alton can provide a comprehensive assessment of your oral health and discuss management options, such as bespoke mouthguards, to help protect your smile.

We’ve all been there—it’s Friday night, the sofa is calling, and the journey to the bathroom sink feels like a mountain trek.

While it's tempting to skip the nighttime routine just this once, here is a quick "why" for keeping up the habit:

 Plaque doesn't take weekends off: Bacteria continue to work even when you're resting.
 Fresh start: A two-minute clean helps ensure you wake up feeling refreshed for your Saturday plans.
 Long-term health: Consistent care is the most effective way to maintain a healthy smile between your regular check-ups.

Do you have a favourite song you play to pass the two-minute brushing time? Let us know in the comments!

Wishing all our patients in Alton a wonderful and relaxing weekend.
