This 60 second check could be the most important thing you do for your child’s dental health today. 🦷

As a dentist and a mum, here is what Dr Debbie checks on her children’s teeth regularly. 🦷

🦷 Stained or discoloured teeth. If you notice any staining or discolouration in your child’s mouth, keep a close eye on it and check for changes regularly. Changes over time can mean progression, and sometimes it means a trip to the dentist sooner rather than later rather than waiting for the next routine appointment.

🍎 Food trapped between the teeth, children’s teeth are naturally more spaced apart than adult teeth, which makes it really easy for food to get trapped between them without anyone noticing, even if you are brushing their teeth every day. Trapped food can weaken the tooth surface and make it much more prone to decay, so always check in between those spaces.

😬 Early signs that orthodontic treatment might be needed. Most children do not get braces until their teens, but there are signs worth looking out for much earlier than that. Severely overlapping teeth, a severely overlapping bite, or teeth that have been taking longer than expected to come through are all things worth mentioning to your dentist sooner rather than later.
