Please remember a dental emergency would only cover:
Dental pain uncontrollable with analgesia
Dental trauma
Bleeding from the mouth which cannot be stopped
Dental/facial swelling

The Practice will re-open after the holiday weekend on Tuesday 22nd April at 8.30am.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ IMPORTANT UPDATE ⚠️⚠️⚠️

In the last hour we have received an update from NHS Lanarkshire recommending that, in response to the red weather warning in place for most of Scotland tomorrow, we cancel all non urgent appointments.

We have contacted everyone that has an appointment on Friday 24th January to reschedule these appointments.

In line with official advice the Practice will be closed. In the event of a dental emergency on Friday 24th January only, please phone the practice and leave a voicemail and a member of our staff will be in touch with you.

We thank you for your ongoing understanding and cooperation and apologise for the inconvenience caused. We hope everyone remains safe tomorrow

As you may be aware, on Wednesday 1st November 2023, the Scottish Government implemented substantial reforms to NHS dental services. This is the most significant change to NHS dentistry in Scotland in decades.
Key things to note:
- Examinations will still be free, however the frequency of examinations will be assessed on each individual patient’s clinical need.
- There will be an increase in most treatment costs if you currently pay for treatment (these fees are set by the Scottish Government and are out with our control).
- Routine six or three monthly scalings are no longer available; however, each patient will be assessed and treatment provided according to the new guidelines.
- The maximum patient fee for any one course of treatment remains the same at £384
- Denture repairs will now incur a charge of £50.88 and all emergency appointments will have an associated fee.
Please note that if you are currently undergoing treatment that began before 1st November 2023 this won’t be affected, and your treatment will continue under the old Terms of Service. Additionally, if you have an examination already booked, this will go ahead as planned. If this is after 1st November 2023, this will be under the new Terms of Service.

A long overdue welcome…

You may have noticed our new name and some new faces in the practice following Dr Tracey Naismith’s retirement in December of last year. Dr Phil McMahon and Dr Raymond Tollan are the proud new owners of the practice, which has been renamed Broomknoll Dental Care.

Phil and Raymond have been friends for most of their lives, and qualified together from Glasgow Dental School in 2010. They bring with them a combined 25 years of experience, with Phil starting practice in Easterhouse before moving to Coatbridge where he practiced for the last 9 years. During this time, he completed further qualifications with the Royal College of Surgeons and now maintains membership with the College of General Dentistry. Raymond worked initially in Monklands Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department and Lanarkshire Public Dental Service treating patients with additional support needs, before moving to Prestwick where he worked for 10 years. He has also completed a postgraduate diploma and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.

12 Broomknoll Street has been a dental practice since the 1950s and has changed significantly over the decades. Dr Norma Macleod and Tracey completed major refurbishments shortly after taking over in 2011, creating a thriving family dental practice. Phil and Raymond are delighted that Norma has stayed on to work at the practice along with our other associates Dr. Glenn Donnet and Dr. Rebecca Dunnigan, and all of our fantastic nursing and support staff.

The new owners are very grateful to be entrusted with taking the practice forward, and have already invested in modernising surgery 4 with a new state-of-the-art dental chair. They are looking to develop the practice further in the near future in order to provide the latest treatments while enhancing patient care.
