DENTAL EXAMINATION - What do we check?

1. Medical history - it is important to provide us with a comprehensive medical history, including all current medications, to ensure your safety

2. Social history - we will check your occupation, smoking status, alcohol intake - these give us an indication of your lifestyle and levels of stress

3. Dental history - how often do you attend, and how do you currently look after your teeth at home. What advice can we give to improve your current regime or ensure it is the most efficient for your continued oral health

4. Dietary information - What is the frequency of your acid/sugar attacks to the teeth? This will help us determine certain risk factors

5. Extra oral examination / Intra oral examination and oral cancer screening will be performed at every checkup.

POST EXTRACTION GUIDANCE

1. Avoid rinsing and spitting for the first 24 hours

2. After 24 hours begin warm salt water rinses, repeat 3-4 x daily for around a week

3. If oozing of blood occurs bite firmly on some damp gauze for 20-30 minutes. Repeat if still bleeding.

4. Take regular pain killers within recommended dosage - always seek medical advice if unsure.

5. Avoid smoking for a minimum of 48 hours this includes the use of electronic tapes

6. Do not eat or drink anything too hot or cold for the first 24 hours

7. Eat a well balanced soft diet for a few days following the procedure

8. Return to your treating practitioner or general dentist if in doubt for assistance and guidance as required.

There are a range of options for missing teeth

(dependent on how many teeth are missing will depend on whether or not an option is quite Right for you)

1. Dentures - a popular removable option which is good for both small and large spaces.
Types of dentures:
I. Acrylic
ii. FLEXIBLE
III. ACETYL OR CHROME

2. Bridges - a popular fixed option for smaller spaces single or few teeth missing
Types of bridges:
I.metal winged bridges - a metal arm is placed onto the adjacent tooth to hold the false tooth
Ii.conventional bridge - a crown is placed onto the adjacent Tooth to hold the false tooth

3. Implant - gold standard place replacement whether it be 1 tooth with a crown on the implant unit or a full arch denture on the implant unit. Essentially a little metal post in the bone to hold the tooth/teeth in place.
