Me - Do your gums bleed when your brush/floss
Patient - Sometimes
Me - Do you know why they may be bleeding?
Patient - Well it only happens when I brush too hard
Me - I understand why you may think that, and you are not alone, so many of my patients say the exact same thing. However the truth is your gums are bleeding when you contact an area of gum and disturb bacteria that has intact been laying on your gums. If you find any area of your gums bleeding spend a little more tine here each day and gradually the bleeding should stop. If however you have left the plaque for longer than a few days this may have hardened to form calculus and only a dental visit preferably with a hygienist can remove this for you and restore your natural smile.
Hope this helps
