We talk a lot about smiles and confidence. But a smile does more than change how you feel about your teeth 🫶

There’s research suggesting the act of smiling can actually improve your mood and make you happier. Your face and your brain are in constant conversation, and when you smile, your brain picks up on it. It’s not a magic switch, but it’s a small, real lift.

And it doesn’t stop with you. Smiles are contagious. Smile at someone and they’ll usually smile back, which makes conversations easier, first impressions warmer and connections quicker.

That’s why I find it so hard to see patients who’ve spent years hiding their smile. Covering your mouth in photos. Laughing with your hand up. Holding back without even realising. It’s not just confidence you lose, it’s all those little moments of joy that come with smiling freely.

My job isn’t just about teeth. It’s about giving people back the freedom to smile without thinking twice, and everything that comes with it.

So here’s your reminder today: smile. Even if you don’t feel like it. It might just change your day 😊

question I get a lot from parents: “do you think their adult teeth look yellow?”

Totally normal! Milk teeth are naturally whiter than adult teeth so when adult teeth come through, they can look more yellow by comparison. That’s not a problem to fix, that’s just how teeth are.

Under 18, I don’t recommend whitening as teeth are still developing and it’s simply not needed at this stage.

The one exception: if adult teeth come through mottled (white or brown patches), we can treat that with something called Icon treatment - a minimally invasive resin infiltration that evens out the appearance without whitening or drilling.

If you’re ever concerned about how your child’s adult teeth are coming through, that’s what a checkup is for. 😊

You don’t have to wait until your child’s older to start their orthodontic journey. 🦷

Early intervention with functional appliances can guide jaw growth, create room before adult teeth have fully grown, and catch issues while they’re still easy to correct, often before baby teeth have even fully gone.

This little one is one month into treatment already ✨

A little message from me ✨

The last couple of weeks have been some of the hardest of my life. Losing my sister isn’t something anyone can prepare you for, and there are days it still doesn’t feel quite real.

But I know she would be the first one telling me off if I wasn’t back doing what I love ❤️

Being a dentist has never just been a job to me. It’s where I find joy, purpose, and a real sense of peace, helping people, and yes, making people smile. So I’m easing back in, part time for now, and I’m so grateful for the patience and kindness so many of you have already shown.

Thank you for holding space for me. It means more than you know 🤍
