The 2D3D4D Concept® hasn't aged a bit. And here's why.
We had the pleasure of joining Global D's international conference "Les Lumières" in Florence, Italy, delivering a plenary lecture to 200 participants from 13 countries and leading a one-day masterclass.
When we introduced the 2D3D4D Concept® in 2018, our ambition was simple: to create a systematic and rational workflow capable of addressing all clinical situations based on two patient-specific variables: aesthetics and function.
This is precisely why the concept remains timeless. It is built around patients, not technology.
Over the past eight years, digital tools have evolved tremendously:
• AI has made DICOM-to-STL segmentation routine
• Creating digital twins has become easier than ever
• New iOS cameras provide greater precision
• Aesthetic planning is simpler with 3DNA®
• The NHP plane can be recorded automatically with Qlone Facescan
• Patient reports are more professional thanks to Askara®
• AI-enhanced radiographic analysis with Diagnocat® is truly remarkable
• Exports through Modjaw® are streamlined by Sphere®
These innovations save time and improve precision. However, our clinical reasoning and the way we design prosthetic projects remain unchanged.
Aesthetics is a subjective factor that must be considered early in the process, as it addresses a key patient concern and encourages engagement.
Function is the other side of the coin: the palatal and occlusal surfaces, which must be designed according to both static and dynamic requirements.
Last year, we introduced the Octa Digital Concept®, outlining the eight steps of a complete mouth design. This collaboration with Prof. Jean-Daniel Orthlieb helps answer a fundamental question:
Who designs the architecture of your cases, and on which scientific occlusal principles?
To conclude our June season, we look forward to exploring this topic further during the CNO online conference on July 2nd:
Aesthetics… BUT Function.
