¿Sabías que se puede nacer con dientes de más? Se llama hiperdoncia.
Es la aparición de uno o varios dientes adicionales, por encima del número habitual. Pueden salir con normalidad o quedarse retenidos dentro del hueso sin asomar, y por eso muchas veces se descubren por casualidad en una radiografía.

Aparece tanto en niños como en adultos, y no siempre da síntomas. Pero conviene controlarla, porque según el caso puede:
🔸 Desplazar a los dientes vecinos
🔸 Dificultar la erupción de otras piezas
🔸 Complicar la alineación y la mordida
🔸 Favorecer el apiñamiento

¿Qué se hace? Depende. A veces basta con vigilar su evolución. Otras se valora retirar el diente de más, sobre todo si está afectando al resto.
Lo importante es detectarla a tiempo. En una revisión, con radiografía cuando hace falta, se ve con claridad y se decide con calma.

It's the appearance of one or more additional teeth, beyond the usual number. They can come through normally or stay trapped inside the bone — which is why they're often found by chance on an X-ray.

It appears in both children and adults, and doesn't always cause symptoms. But it's worth monitoring, because depending on the case it can:
🔸 Displace neighbouring teeth
🔸 Make it harder for other teeth to come through
🔸 Complicate alignment and bite
🔸 Contribute to crowding

What's done? It depends. Sometimes it's enough to monitor how it develops. Other times, removing the extra tooth is considered — especially if it's affecting the rest.
The key is detecting it in time. At a check-up, with an X-ray when needed, it shows up clearly and you can decide calmly.

Por mucho que te cepilles, siempre hay zonas que se resisten.
En las revisiones lo vemos a menudo: pacientes que se cuidan, que cepillan a diario… pero que acumulan placa en puntos concretos sin darse cuenta. Las caras internas, la zona de las muelas, el borde de la encía o los espacios entre dientes suelen ser los más habituales.
No es cuestión de cepillar más fuerte ni más veces. Es cuestión de llegar bien a esos sitios.
¿Qué ayuda de verdad?

🔸 Revisar la técnica. A veces un pequeño ajuste en cómo mueves el cepillo cambia mucho el resultado.
🔸 Insistir, sin prisa, en las zonas que más se acumulan. Esas que casi todos pasamos por alto.
🔸 Usar cepillos especiales cuando hacen falta. Interdentales, unipenacho o de ortodoncia llegan donde el cepillo normal no puede.

Lo bueno es que estos puntos se detectan fácil en una revisión. Y una vez sabes dónde están los tuyos, cuidarlos es mucho más sencillo.

We see it often at check-ups: patients who take good care of themselves, who brush daily… but still build up plaque in specific spots without realising. The inner surfaces, the back molars, the gum line or the gaps between teeth tend to be the most common.
It's not about brushing harder or more often. It's about reaching those areas properly.
What actually helps?

🔸 Reviewing your technique. Sometimes a small adjustment in how you move the brush changes a lot.
🔸 Taking your time with the spots that build up most — the ones nearly all of us overlook.
🔸 Using special brushes when needed. Interdental, single-tuft or orthodontic brushes reach where a regular one can't.

The good thing is that these spots are easy to detect at a check-up. And once you know where yours are, looking after them becomes much simpler.

Llega el verano, llega el calor… y llega el helado 🍦.
Y la buena noticia es que no, no tienes que renunciar a él para cuidar tu boca.
El helado no es el enemigo. Lo que marca la diferencia es lo que haces después.

Un par de cosas que ayudan más de lo que parece:
🔸 No te cepilles justo después. El azúcar y el frío dejan el esmalte algo más sensible en ese momento. Espera unos 20-30 minutos.
🔸 Enjuágate con agua al terminar. Arrastra parte del azúcar y ayuda a que no se quede pegado.
🔸 Si notas sensibilidad con el frío, no lo ignores. Puede ser una señal de que el esmalte está pidiendo una revisión.

El verano es para disfrutarlo, helado incluido. Solo con unos pequeños hábitos, tu sonrisa lo lleva igual de bien que tú.
Y si hace tiempo que no pasas por una revisión, antes de las vacaciones es buen momento. 🦷

A couple of things that help more than you'd think:
🔸 Don't brush right after. Sugar and cold leave the enamel a little more sensitive in that moment. Wait around 20-30 minutes.
🔸 Rinse with water when you finish. It washes away some of the sugar and stops it sticking around.
🔸 If you feel sensitivity with cold, don't ignore it. It can be a sign your enamel is asking for a check-up.

Cuando se pierde un diente y no se repone, hay algo que mucha gente no sabe: el hueso de esa zona puede reducirse 🤏🏻.
¿Por qué pasa? Porque la raíz del diente estimulaba ese hueso al masticar. Sin esa raíz, el cuerpo entiende que ya no lo necesita y poco a poco lo va reabsorbiendo. Es un proceso lento, silencioso y sin molestias, así que es fácil no darle importancia.

El detalle importante llega más adelante. Si en algún momento quieres ponerte un implante, necesitas suficiente hueso para sujetarlo. Y si ha pasado mucho tiempo, puede que no quede el suficiente.

¿Significa eso que ya no hay solución 🤔? No. Existen técnicas para regenerar hueso y poder colocar el implante igualmente. Lo que pasa es que el tratamiento se vuelve más largo y complejo de lo que habría sido reponiendo la pieza a tiempo.
La conclusión es sencilla: cuanto antes se valora, más fáciles son las opciones.
Si tienes un hueco desde hace tiempo, lo mejor es verlo con calma y saber en qué punto estás 🦷.

When you lose a tooth and don't replace it, there's something many people don't know: the bone in that area can shrink 🤏🏻.
Why does it happen? Because the tooth's root used to stimulate that bone every time you chewed. Without the root, the body understands it's no longer needed and slowly reabsorbs it. It's a slow, silent process with no discomfort, so it's easy to overlook.

The important part comes later. If at some point you want a dental implant, you need enough bone to hold it in place. And if a lot of time has passed, there might not be enough left.

Does that mean there's no solution 🤔? No. There are techniques to regenerate bone so the implant can still be placed. The thing is, the treatment becomes longer and more complex than it would have been by replacing the tooth in time.
The takeaway is simple: the sooner it's assessed, the easier the options are.

Hay días que llega un detalle así y se te queda el corazón emocionado todo el día 💚.

Las causas más habituales:
