Debonding final restoration
Recurrent carries
Overhanging restoration lead to severe gingival inflammation
Proximal carries for neighboring tooth

One of the most frustrating situations I encounter these days is seeing an excellent root canal treatment followed by a poor-quality coronal restoration.
A technically successful endodontic treatment alone does not guarantee long-term success. The final restoration is an integral part of the treatment, not a separate step.
This case presented with:
• Debonding of the final restoration.
• Recurrent caries.
• An overhanging restoration causing severe gingival inflammation.
• Proximal caries affecting the adjacent tooth.
All of these complications were related to an inadequate coronal restoration, despite the root canal treatment itself being of a very high standard. Of course, the restoration may have been placed by another clinician, which highlights the importance of evaluating the entire treatment sequence rather than assuming responsibility.
My message to all colleagues is simple:
Please give the final restoration the same attention and precision as the root canal treatment itself. Even if the definitive plan is to place a crown, a properly sealed, well-contoured, and anatomically correct interim or final restoration is essential to preserve the success of the endodontic treatment and protect the surrounding teeth and periodontal tissues.
The quality of the coronal seal is just as important as the quality of the root canal treatment.
