A part of my lecture slides about best sites for TAD insertion; When discussing palatal anatomy and TAD placement, many clinicians are concerned about the greater palatine neurovascular bundle. Fortunately, the routine palatal miniscrew insertion sites are located at a safe distance from this structure, so there is no need to panic as long as the recommended insertion areas are respected.

Case Spotlight

A 23-year-old woman visited my clinic concerned about her crowded and crooked teeth. Rather than extracting healthy teeth, we chose a non-extraction approach using MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) to widen the maxillary arch, creating the space needed to align her teeth properly.
Tomas pins from was used in this case .
Following expansion, her teeth were aligned and her occlusion was corrected, resulting in a broad, harmonious smile. Beyond the dental improvements, she also reported noticeably better nasal breathing after treatment.

Four years later, her smile remains stable, healthy, and functional—a rewarding example of how skeletal expansion can provide both esthetic and airway benefits in selected adult patients.

Today was a truly wonderful day as we celebrated the Master’s thesis defense of my dear Orthodontic candidate, Dr. Menna. I am delighted to share that she performed exceptionally well, reflecting her hard work, dedication, and academic excellence.

My sincere appreciation goes to Dr. Noha Ashmawy for her outstanding supervision and continuous support throughout this journey.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the esteemed defense committee, Prof. Amr El-Dakroury (Prof of Orthodontics Cairo University) and Prof. Maha, Head of the Orthodontics Department at Al-Azhar University (Girls Branch), for kindly accepting my invitation and for their valuable contributions to this important academic milestone.

Congratulations, Dr. Menna, and best wishes for a successful future ahead.
