Fluoride is a mineral that can prevent cavities and even repair teeth in the early stages of tooth decay, even before the decay is visible.
Forms of Fluoride:
1- Topical fluorides may be found in toothpastes, mouth rinses and fluoride applied in the dental office (foam , fluoride gel or varnish).
2- Systemic fluorides are those that are ingested. They include fluoridated water and dietary fluoride supplements in the form of tablets.
How Does Fluoride Work?
Enamel, the outer layer of the crown of a tooth, is made of mineral crystals. Every day, minerals are lost and gained from inside the enamel crystals. Losing minerals is called demineralization. Gaining them back is called remineralization. Too much loss of minerals without enough replacement leads to tooth decay. So, Fluoride reaches your teeth and it is absorbed into the enamel to replace the lost minerals causing remineralization.
If you are at high risk for tooth decay, Topical fluoride products are applied directly to the teeth then fluoride levels in the mouth remain higher for several hours. Brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste is very important to maintain optimum fluoride levels.
Fluoride is safe and effective when used properly however, it can be hazardous at higher-than-recommended levels. Fluoride should only be used by children ages 2 and up, or as directed by a dentist.Fluoride treatments may be recommended every three , six , twelve months .

‎*The scientific form is written in English so it is preferred to read it that way if you are a dentist *

Teeth whitening is a simple process, which use products contain one of two tooth bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) .

* How it Work in your teeth ?!
These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the color less concentrated and your teeth become brighter.

>> There are two ways to put the shine back in your smile 😀
1- In dental clinic....
it usually requires only one office visit, and this way can get your teeth whiter faster, The dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect your gums, Bleach is then applied to the teeth. The bleaching solution is usually much stronger than at-home kits. Also, heat, light or a combination of the two may be used to speed and intensify the whitening process.

2-At-Home Bleaching from Your Dentist .... "There are many choices for bleaching teeth at home" ....
1- "Tooth whitening strips and gels" , applied directly to the teeth with a brush or a thin strip, these peroxide-based tooth bleaching products usually need to be applied once or twice a day for 10 to 14 days.

2- "Tray-based tooth bleaching
systems" ,your dentist will provide you with a custom-made tray and give you instructions on how to place the bleaching solution and for what length of time. It will filled with a peroxide-based bleaching gel or paste and placed over the teeth for one to several hours a day for up to four weeks.

3-" Tooth whitening toothpastes" , which contain chemicals or polishing agents that help scrub stains from teeth without the aid of a bleaching agent. Tooth-whitening toothpastes are relatively inexpensive and brighten teeth by about one shade. Some whitening toothpastes contain peroxides, but they aren't left on the teeth long enough to have a whitening benefit.

N.B : the longer you keep a stronger solution on your teeth, the whiter your teeth become.!
Also, the higher the percentage of peroxide in the whitening solution, the shorter it should be applied to the teeth. But !! Keeping the gel on longer will dehydrate the tooth and increase tooth sensitivity.

But remember ! Brushing , flossing, rinsing daily and avoid acidic and tannin-rich foods and beverages are everyday ways to keep your teeth bright, white and healthy  ❤ !

*The english form is the dental management while the Arabic is directed to the diabetic patients *

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by either increased blood glucose level resulting from defects in insulin secretion or insulin action or both.

There are 2 types:
Type 1 (insulin secretion): as it results from the pancreas' failure to produce enough insulin.
Type 2 (insulin resistance): where cells fail to respond to insulin and also as a result of the primary excessive body weight and not enough exercise.

Oral complications in poorly controlled DM:
Xerostomia, Burning sensation, Gingivitis and peridontitis, Dental caries, Bacterial, viral and fungal infections, periapical abcesses

As for dental management:
1-In patients with controlled diabetes, no special treatment is required, verify that the patient have taken medications and diet as usual and patient should be given morning appointments.
2-Poorly controlled diabetic patients:
-All elective dental procedures should be postponed
-Provide only emergency care.
3-Management of insulin shock when occurs:
It occurs when the concentration of blood glucose drops below 60 mg/dl

The most obvious signs and symptoms: Confusion, restlessness, tremors, sweeting, tachycardia.

Management:
-Check the glucose by glucometer
-establish airway, breathing and circulation
-Place the patient in supine position.
-if the patient is conscious, give him/her sugar or orange juice
-If unconscious patient: take 1 mg of glucagon I/V or I/M
- Confirm that blood glucose level is normal before patient leaves.
