We recently posted a poll about how one could treat this case (slide right) of a fractured front tooth. Almost half the participants chose to remove and place and implant the others voted to try to keep the tooth.
In this case we chose to save to tooth by implementing a surgical procedure called crown lengthening where we remove some gum and bone to make the tooth longer to 'hold' the crown. A lot of times this can lead to uneven crown margins but in this case there was a little excess gum that we could 'play' with😉. We chose a metal-free crown material, achieving an absolutely functional and anesthetic result👌🏻.
Implants are great and we place them on a daily basis but it's always more fun when you get too keep the tooth. Thank you for these team work and the gum result! There’s we have a happy patient😎

Gum health day and some information about periodontal disease.
Periodontitis is often known as 'Gum Disease' and is a very common condition in which the gums and deeper periodontal structures become inflamed. This inflammation of the gums, which usually takes the form of redness, swelling and a tendency to bleed during tooth brushing, is the body’s response to certain bacteria that have been allowed to accumulate on the teeth.
Periodontal disease is dangerous in that it is often painless and symptomless. Recent epidemiological studies show that 47.2 percent, or 64.7 million American adults, have mild, moderate or severe periodontitis, the more advanced form of periodontal disease.
