And just like that, we are at Labour Day. How did that summer go so fast?! Our office will be open Friday, September 4th until noon and then we will remain closed until Tuesday, September 8th at 8am. Please enjoy a fun long weekend☀️

Whether we like it or not, back-to-school is around the corner. It’s time to start getting back to our regular routines, but what does that mean for your oral health?
✔️If your daily hygiene routine has been slipping with later bedtimes and changing schedules, let’s get back onto brushing and flossing daily *it’s never too late to start*
✔️If the heat has brought on a new habit of sipping on iced coffees or sparkling water drinks, it’s time to work on replacing that with our trusted water bottles. Constant exposure to sugars and acids throughout the day can really accelerate wear and decay of teeth while plain water helps to rinse and hydrate the mouth.
✔️If the busy social calendar of summer had you delaying your dental appointments, it’s time to call and schedule. We are booking into the fall for most appointments and often patients want to get in before their benefits renew in January.
✔️It’s likely time to replace that tooth brush you’ve been using all summer. We recommend replacement every 3 months OR when the bristles start to splay, whichever comes first.

will be closed for a Summer holiday shutdown from August 3-7th. We have set up with another local dentist to see any emergency patients that require care while our doors are closed. If you have any pain, swelling or signs of a dental emergency please call our office for instruction. We look forward to some sun and rest and greeting you back on August 10th ☀️

We know the World Cup is over, but we still see red cards regularly around the office. Here are a few VERY common misconceptions, and some counterpoints below.
•
“I only come to the dentist when I have pain”-often once decay or gum disease is painful, it’s past the point of typical, conservative treatment.
•
“We don’t need to treat the baby teeth, they fall out anyway”-yes, they do fall out, but the primary molars are retained until 11-13 years of age. These baby teeth do a big job in maintaining space for the adult teeth and, without maintenance, problems can lead to serious infection, damage to the permanent teeth below and orthodontic issues.
•
“Nobody flosses”-not true. We have converted many patients. We know it’s inconvenient, but when practiced regularly it can take less than 2 minutes and be the most inexpensive way to prevent cavities and gum disease.
•
“I don’t want a cleaning, I just want to whiten my teeth”-whitening is a wonderful additive treatment that we offer, but without care and maintenance to those “white teeth” it’s a bit like lipstick on a 🐷
•
“Bleeding gums are normal”-while bleeding gums are common, they are not a part of a normal, healthy mouth. Bleeding gums are an indication of active gum disease and require an assessment and plan of action for management.

Congratulations to the U11 Rep ball team on their win against the U13 Select team at the Field of Dreams in Ingersoll🎉 Dr. Ed Hoben Dentistry loves supporting our community especially when it means encouraging youth in sports. How awesome it is to have this special field in Oxford county and even cooler to see our name under the sunset 🙌 Great job Adam M. Glass for capturing these shots.

Hello sweet summer☀️

A few tips from your Friendly City dental office for the long, hot days of summer:
☀️drink that water, when we get dehydrated our salivary flow drops leaving us at risk of enamel wear and cavities
☀️apply spf to your lips, these are one of the most common areas to develop skin cancer
☀️snack smart, cool treats are one of the best ways to enjoy the summer but sticky, sugary snacks & drinks leave us at risk for cavities-be careful around popsicles and freezies
☀️don’t forget your travel toothbrush, every cleaning at ends with a complimentary toothbrush, floss and toothpaste, if you’re travelling this season don’t forget to pack your oral hygiene kit

Gone 🐟ing! If you’re looking for Dr. Hoben this week, you may have to look pretty hard. For Father’s Day, he travelled to Great Slave Lake in NWT with his son Jack for what can only be described as an epic fishing trip. Those aren’t your typical sunfish or rock bass! They say a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work…🎣
