Ever wondered what happens at a pedorthic appointment? 👣

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at how we take a scan of your foot for custom shoes and devices.

This machine is our 3D foot scanner and it uses hundreds of tiny pegs to capture the unique shape and contours of your foot. As your foot rests on the surface, the pegs rise until they meet your foot — then stop.

Together, they create a precise impression of your foot that can be used to help create a custom orthotic.

And that’s it. Just a few seconds. No pain. No plaster.

A little behind the scenes today with Vera, our Lead Orthotic Technician at WinPO.

Every custom orthosis starts with skilled hands, careful attention to detail, and a commitment to finding the right fit.

It’s a process where precision matters - because every detail plays a role in creating an orthosis that is made for the individual.

In our line of work, it's important to stay up to date with the latest techniques and technologies. But every now and then, it's just as rewarding to look back and appreciate how far our profession has come!

A client recently brought in his grandfather's prosthesis from circa 1920. Made from wood, metal, and leather, it was secured with a shoulder harness - a remarkable example of the ingenuity and craftsmanship of its time.

While prosthetic technology has come a long way since then, it's inspiring to see the skill, care, and craftsmanship that went into creating devices like this nearly a century ago!

Sometimes, you just need a little whimsy in your life. 🦋

We recently created this custom prosthesis featuring a stunning blue and gold butterfly design, transforming it from a medical device into a beautiful expression of personality.

We love bringing designs like this to life because we know they can make a real difference. When someone feels confident wearing their prosthesis, it becomes so much more than a device - it becomes part of who they are.

Thanks for letting us create this custom piece for you!

☀️ Stay safe in the summer heat. Know the signs of heat-related illness.

Dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating, and confusion can all be signs that your body is struggling with the heat.

For prosthesis users, hot weather can bring extra challenges. Stay hydrated, take breaks, and pay attention to changes in comfort, skin, and energy levels.

If you experience worsening symptoms, it is time to seek medical attention. A little extra care can help you stay comfortable and active all summer long.

Our office is closed today, but we wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a wonderful Terry Fox Day!

Although many people still think of today as Civic Holiday, we felt it was important to recognize the incredible legacy of Terry Fox. Through his Marathon of Hope, Terry inspired millions and forever changed the conversation around cancer research, resilience, and living with limb loss.

Since then, the The Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $850 million worldwide to support cancer research. Terry also helped reshape how people viewed amputation - not as something that defined a person, but as one part of an extraordinary life. His courage, determination, and unwavering hope continue to inspire people of all ages and abilities today.

So, wherever you are today and however you will be spending your day - we hope you will take a moment to remember one truly remarkable Canadian and the legacy he left behind.

Summer means more time outdoors - but it can also mean more sweat inside your prosthesis.

Excess moisture can affect comfort, fit, and even skin health. The good news? A few simple habits—like keeping your liner clean, checking your skin daily, and taking breaks when needed—can help you stay comfortable all season long.
