When should you start brushing your baby’s teeth?

You can start cleaning your baby’s mouth with a soft, damp cloth even before their first tooth emerges. This will help them get used to having their mouth cleaned. Flossing is so important for removing plaque and bacteria that your toothbrush can’t reach, but are those plastic floss picks really as good as a standard piece of dental floss?

The proper length for a piece of dental floss is from your hand up to your shoulder, and this is so you’re able to use a fresh section as you work your way around your mouth. A floss pick only provides one small length of floss, which means you’re not able to use a clean section as it begins to shred or pick up particles.

Traditional dental floss wins this round, but we still believe there is a time and a place for floss picks. They’re convenient for keeping in a purse or desk at work, and they’re often easier to maneuver — which means they could be the difference between someone flossing or not flossing, and we certainly want to see everyone flossing!
