She didn’t like not being able to see any of her teeth when talking and wanted to improve their colour and shape. We were able to do that with eight upper porcelain restorations to give her the smile she’s always wanted to see.

Two porcelain restorations on the right central and right lateral incisors. This is the kind of case where the new teeth need to blend in with the surrounding natural teeth.

When you’re only working on a couple of teeth, every detail matters. Shade, texture, line angles, contours, translucency, it all has to be accounted for to blend in harmoniously with the natural teeth. The art is in making the restorations disappear.

This patient came in with teeth broken down to the point where they couldn’t be saved.

When the teeth get to this stage of breakdown, the impact on a patient’s day-to-day goes well beyond how their smile looks. The bite, the chewing, the way they speak, even how comfortable they feel in social settings, all of it gets affected.

So the plan was a full reset. We removed what was left, placed implants to anchor the new teeth, and rebuilt it all.

A new start. Rebuilding not just the bite and function, but the overall quality of life that comes along with it.

This patient (who happens to be a dental hygienist) wanted to improve her smile. We were able to achieve a beautiful smile makeover with eight upper porcelain restorations to accomplish her goals.

The design phase on a case like this is a big part of the process, from working through the proportions, the smile line, the way the teeth are going to sit in relation to the lips and the face when she’s at rest and when she’s at a full smile. A lot of small decisions that all come together in the end for a beautiful new smile that feels more like her.

Three porcelain restorations for this patient. Two centrals and a lateral.

Sometimes you don’t need to touch every tooth to change the way a smile sits in the face. Subtle but impactful change.

Traveling from Northern BC meant we try to plan things in a way that makes each trip as productive as possible. Starting with a gum lift to get the gums symmetrical on both sides, and then four porcelain restorations.
Getting the front four teeth to blend in with the rest of the teeth and smile naturally and harmoniously.
Photos taken shortly after putting in the four porcelain restorations and so the gums will still settle down further.

3 years later… smile makeover and reconstruction was as beautiful as ever.

Quality shows over time… and seeing restorations still looking healthy and beautiful, with the gums also healthy and well adapted, is a sign of successful treatment.

This smile makeover was a really tough one. Not only were we looking to rebuild the bite but there were a lot of cosmetic challenges that had to be solved to create a beautiful and harmonious smile. We had to take into account the asymmetries in the face, jaw, and lips when the patient smiles. Correcting some of the tilting.

Creating the natural flow for the teeth in the smile requires us to think about the lips and the overall facial features. That's truly what distinguishes a beautiful smile makeover. It's the harmony that it brings to the overall facial aesthetics

Two presentations at Pacific Dental Conference 2026, and I’m reflecting on my journey the past few years.

In 2020, I gave my first talk at PDC. Small room. Not even half full. Maybe 20-something people in the seats. I was grateful and proud to just be there. But also kind of wishing more people had shown up.

I remember one of those 20-something people came up to me afterwards and told me it was one of the best presentations they’d seen in their many years of attending PDC. That really shifted my perspective. It reminded me to focus on what actually mattered. Not how many seats were empty, but that 20+ people chose to spend their time with me. And they got something out of it. That is all I needed to keep going.

This year I presented twice. One of those sessions had over 400 people in attendance. Full room, standing room only.

I was again grateful and proud to be there. But what’s interesting is that it didn’t feel any different. The same appreciation for every single person who chose to be in that room, whether it was 20 or 400. The same sense that people trusted me with their time, and that I owe it to them to keep getting better.

But also the same knowing that I’m only getting started... That I haven’t even scratched the surface of what I’m meant to do. That has not changed at all I realize, because my fulfilment comes from the progress and process of getting better... rather than the outcome of what I am doing. It’s a never ending chase between me and myself to make a difference in the ways I can. I enjoy the challenge but at the same time have things in perspective… even if one person benefits from what I do, that is plenty.

To the people who showed up in 2020 when no one knew my name... thank you. To the 400+ who showed up Thursday afternoon... thank you. I am grateful to continue on this journey with all of you.
