🩷 Dental Care During Chemotherapy Matters 🩷

Cancer treatments like chemotherapy can affect your mouth, teeth, and gums — making good oral care more important than ever.

At ECDC, we want patients to know there are important steps you can take before, during, and after treatment to help prevent infection, discomfort, and oral complications.

✔️ BEFORE Chemotherapy:
• Visit your dentist for an exam and cleaning
• Treat cavities, infections, or gum disease early
• Complete any necessary dental work before treatment starts

✔️ DURING Chemotherapy:
• Use an extra-soft toothbrush after meals and before bed
• Rinse often with warm salt & baking soda water
• Avoid alcohol-based mouthwashes
• Report any sores, bleeding, or white patches right away

✔️ IMPORTANT TIPS:
• Stay hydrated to help with dry mouth
• Avoid acidic, crunchy, or sugary foods if your mouth is sensitive
• Remove dentures if they cause irritation
• Always keep your dental team updated on medications and treatments Dental Emergency: For urgent care during chemo, the dentist must liaise with the oncology team, as medical tests may be needed first (e.g., white blood cell count check).

Traffic Impacts on Robie Street Near Halifax Infirmary – April 25, 2026 Nova Scotia Health is advising crane operations will continue on Robie Street, on Saturday, April 25, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All southbound lanes on Robie Street will be closed between Quinpool Road and Jubilee Road.

**TRAFFIC NOTE**

Starting today (May 19) until Friday (May 29), Exit 15 westbound on Highway 104 will be closed to traffic for roadwork.

That means anyone travelling westbound on the 104 (from Valley/New Glasgow/Antigonish/Cape Breton, etc.) won’t have access to the 102 interchange at Exit 15. They will have to drive to Exit 13 (Debert), turn around, and come back... or get off at Exit 17 (Valley) and drive through town.

Eastbound (coming from Amherst/NB) won’t be affected. Northbound traffic on the 102 won't be affected. - - Mitch & James
