5-year follow-up: full-mouth rehabilitation
This healthy 65-year-old male initially presented in 2020 with:
• Severe caries (13, 11, 26, 48)
• Periodontal bone loss (26, 45, 47)
• Endodontic lesions (44, 45, 47)
• Previously failed short implant (15)
• Healthy implants (15, 24)
Following comprehensive periodontal, restorative and endodontic assessment, a staged approach was undertaken including extractions and bone grafting, with implant placement (16, 13, 11, 25, 26, 44, 46, 47). All implant crown & bridgework was screw-retained.
The surgical and prosthetic rehabilitation was completed over ~1 year.
5-year outcome:
• Stable bone levels
• Healthy peri-implant tissues
• No biologic or mechanical complications
Contributing factors:
• Non-smoker
• Excellent plaque control
• Periodontal maintenance every 4 months
• Night guard compliance (bruxer)
• Daily brushing, flossing, and Waterpik use
• Ongoing medical follow-up (glycemic and vitamin D screening)
Long-term success is rarely about the procedure alone — it’s about maintenance and patient adherence.
The periodontist was the author. The restorative dentist was Dr. Tudor Dabuleanu at Dabuleanu Dental.
