NO Room to floss?

•No matter how tight the fit, there should always be room for floss between your teeth. For some, our teeth have grown in such a way that they become a bit crowded.
•“Tight teeth” are very closely spaced, leaving little room in between each of them. This can make flossing very difficult, painful, and frustrating with a lot of floss broken halfway through.

Here are some options:

🔸️Use ribbon-style floss: This type of floss is designed to glide through tight spaces without getting stuck or shredding.

🔸️Use unwaxed floss: Unwaxed floss is thinner and easier to maneuver in tight spaces. However, it can fray and break more easily.

🔸️Use dental floss tape: Floss tape is less likely to break or snag than floss.

🔸️Use a floss pick: Floss picks can be a good alternative for flossing back teeth. They offer a different grip and angle that can make it easier to navigate the back of your mouth.

🔸️Use a floss threader: A floss threader can be used to pull floss through the gap under a dental bridge.

🔸️Avoid forcing floss: Forcing floss between teeth can cut your gums and cause bleeding and soreness

Do Grills Cause Problems?
Yes, they can.

It’s important to conduct thorough oral hygiene procedures including flossing and brushing with an anti-microbial toothpaste as food and plaque can easily develop on the grill and can cause irritation to the gingival margin and gingivitis may develop and the possibility of tooth decay.

Dental grills can also cause abrasion to adjoining teeth, gum recession, tooth discoloration, or chipped teeth. A grill should always be removed before eating or rinsing to clean the mouth and may cause an allergic reaction to the metal.

The Ontario dental hygiene association does not recommend or condone any type of dental grill. It is important to consult with a dentist regarding the steps for dental grill placement and the implications on your oral health.

A white tongue can result from a buildup of debris. Common reasons include a dry mouth, to***co use, and not cleaning the tongue.
It can result from inflammation or a fungal infection

👉While it is not always possible to avoid getting a white tongue, basic oral hygiene can help prevent many cases. This includes brushing the teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
👉Many people also benefit from using a tongue scraper every day or brushing the tongue with a toothbrush.
Additionally, lifestyle choices may help prevent a white tongue at times.
👉Avoiding to***co products and alcoholic drinks may help, as well as eating a varied and nutritious diet.
Going to a dentist every 6 months for a checkup will help keep the mouth as clean as possible.
👉People should report any worrying symptoms to a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Extrinsic stains can present as green, orange, brown, yellow, or black.

🟩Green and orange stains are typically found in patients with poor hygiene when certain chromogenic bacteria are present.

🟫Brown stains are common and could be due to a number of causes, such as to***co and foods/beverages.

🟨Yellow extrinsic stain is often the result of poor hygiene and heavy plaque buildup

⬛️Black stain is less common and associated with iron in the saliva. This type of stain does not correlate with poor hygiene yet is commonly found as a line around the gingival margins.

Difference between Inlay, Onlay, and a crown

The Inlay

Inlay is used when the cavity is too large for simple filling. Inlay is created as a single solid piece to fill the cavity. It is cemented on tooth.

The Onlay

Onlay is more than Inlay and less than Crown. It covers the cusp of the tooth and is fabricated as single.

The Crown

It’s more like tooth replacement than repair and used for serious dental issues. A cap is placed on a treated tooth after existing decay is removed.

Tooth brushing method🪥

👉1.Bass or Sulcular Technique
•Hold the toothbrush parallel to your teeth

•Tilt the brush to a 45-degree angle

•Angle the brush so the bristles are slightly under the gumline

•With a firm yet gentle pressure, brush back and forth or use a circular motion 15 to 20 times before moving to the next area

•Brush all teeth on the outer surface and then clean the backside of the teeth using the same motions

•Hold the toothbrush in a vertical position behind your front teeth and brush up and down, using the bristles on the toe of the brush

•Brush the chewing surface of the molars and brush your tongue

👉2. Stillman Technique
The Stillman brushing technique is similar to the Bass technique. However, instead of circles, you use short horizontal strokes back-and-forth on all surfaces of the teeth

👉3. Charter Technique

Your dentist may recommend the Charter method if you have spaces between your teeth, gum recession, exposed roots, or have had periodontal surgery. Charter is also useful if you have orthodontic appliances or fixed partial dentures.

Sugars & Sweeteners Dietary and Nutritional Factors

•One of the benefits of artificial sweeteners is that they can add sweetness without the calories of sugar.

Non-nutritive sweeteners (also known as artificial sweeteners) are often considerably sweeter than sucrose. Stevia and saccharin, for example, are about 300 times sweeter than sucrose, while sucralose is 600 times sweeter.

•Unlike regular sugar, artificial sweeteners are considered non-cariogenic, meaning that they don't contribute to tooth decay.

•Artificial sweeteners may have an anti-cariogenic effect — not only do they not contribute to tooth decay, but they may work against it. When you eat or drink something with sugar, the pH in your mouth drops due to an increase in acidity.

•Artificial sweeteners seem to have the opposite effect, which may help to balance your salivary pH and decrease the amount of decay-causing bacteria in the mouth.

•Artificial sweeteners provide some benefits for your oral health and teeth.

•Does this mean that you should swap out any foods and drinks containing added sugar with foods and drinks containing non-nutritive sweeteners? Not exactly.
While cutting back on sugar is definitely a smart thing to do, you might not want to add an artificial sweetener to everything.

Oral hygiene instruction

•Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping your mouth clean and disease-free.
It involves brushing and flossing your teeth as well as visiting your dentist regularly for dental X-rays, exams, and cleanings.

•Oral hygiene is preventative care.
This means you can stop oral health problems — such as cavities, gum disease, bad breath (halitosis), and other issues — before they start by taking good care of your teeth and gums.

How can I improve my oral hygiene?

•Brush your teeth at least twice a day.

•Floss once daily.

•Brush your tongue

•Use an antibacterial mouthwash every day.

•Visit your dentist regularly.

•Avoid smoking and other to***co products
