IMPRESSION COPING: Selecting an impression coping for NobelActive implant.
So when you receive a case back from the specialist you will have two main prescriptions:
1. The diameter and length of the implant. We will look at the first number the diameter which will help us decide if it is NP, RP or WP.
2. The second will be the dimensions of the healing abutment. Again we will look at the first number which is the diameter coded for NP, RP or WP.
3. The next thing to note is the diameter of the healing abutment. For example, is it RP 3.6, 5.0 or 6.0.
The impression copings are color and diameter matched to the healing abutments. The next step is to decide if you want to use open tray or closed tray impression coping. Majority of the time if the implants are fairly parallel, single unit, and if a patient has inadequate mouth opening, we use closed tray. The open tray is used for multiple implants that do not have parallel path of withdrawal and may cause distortion of the impression. The open tray impression copings come in two sizes 10 and 14mm while the closed tray come in two sizes 9 and 13mm so significantly smaller in height. The choice between 9 and 13mm height will be based on the height of the adjacent teeth. In short if you know the color and diameter of the healing abutment you can easily decide the size of the impression coping. For example, of the healing abutment is yellow (RP) 5.0. Then the impression coping should be RP (yellow) 5.0.
The implant analog will be RP (yellow in this case). Lets order the component Which in this case we will use closed tray short impression coping for molar that is 5.0 x 9.0 with a code of 36543.
