The Canadian Dental Care Plan is one of the biggest changes to dental access in this country in decades, and most of the people it was built for still cannot tell you how it works.
So here it is without the government language. It is a federal plan for residents who do not have private dental insurance. It is not automatic, which is the part almost everybody misses. You apply, you are approved, and you are given a start date, and treatment before that date is not covered.
Depending on your approval it can help with exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings and extractions. Some situations involve a co-payment, and some treatments need to be approved in advance.
The mistake we see most often is not a paperwork mistake. It is somebody deciding on their own that they will not qualify, and never applying.
Humber Dental accepts CDCP and IFHP patients. If you are not sure where you stand, call and ask us rather than guessing. Coverage details change, so please confirm current eligibility with us or with Health Canada before making a decision.
