The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) renewal period is now open!

Beginning today (April 15), patients can renew their CDCP coverage for the 2026-2027 benefit year, which starts on July 1. This must be completed by June 1 to avoid a gap in coverage.

Our office fully accepts and supports the CDCP.

Update on the status of the communities served by the Jamaica Dental Mission, which I have been a part of for 8 years:

The community of Kew Park was destroyed by the storm surge and winds. Every home and the 200 year old church were completely destroyed. The only structure left standing was the school, primarily because Dr McLeod had it reinforced with steel beams and a hurricane grade metal roof a few years ago. The entire community is now living at the school.

The town of Cambridge, including the health center was completely destroyed

No word on Flankers.

In the coming days, I will share specifics on how we can help.

An excerpt from the public advisory from Health Canada, updated on Sept. 23:

"Health Canada currently maintains that there is no conclusive evidence that using acetaminophen as directed during pregnancy causes autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Acetaminophen is commonly used to relieve pain and reduce fever. It has been used safely by millions of Canadians for decades, including during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Acetaminophen is a recommended treatment of pain or fever in pregnancy when used as directed. It should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration needed. Untreated fever and pain in pregnant women can pose risks to the unborn child."

Key Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) dates for 2025:

May 1 - age 65+ and under 18 can renew existing coverage
May 1 - age 55-64 can apply for coverage
May 15 - age 18-34 can apply
May 29 - age 35-54 can apply

Applications and renewals require your 2024 tax return to be filed and you have received your Notice of Assessment.

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, Ontario Dental Association, and Canadian Dental Association all support community water fluoridation. Based on decades of research, it is a safe, effective, and economical way to help prevent tooth decay.

Communities with water fluoridation have a 30-50% decrease in tooth decay rates.

Its safety is regularly evaluated, and there is no credible evidence supporting an association between fluoridation and any serious health risks.
