What Really Happens During a Deep Cleaning?

If your dentist has recommended a deep cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing), you may be wondering what to expect.

A deep cleaning is not the same as a regular dental cleaning. It is performed when bacteria and tartar have built up below the gumline, causing deeper gum pockets and signs of gum disease.

During the procedure:
✔️ The area is gently numbed for your comfort
✔️ Specialized ultrasonic and hand instruments remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gums
✔️ Deep periodontal pockets are thoroughly cleaned
✔️ Your gums are given the opportunity to heal and reattach to the teeth

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Treating gum disease early can help prevent tooth loss, bad breath, bleeding gums, and more serious oral health problems.
