A toothbrush with bristles that have began to point outward is unfortunately no longer effectively cleaning your teeth.

Be sure to change your toothbrush, minimally every 4 to 6 months or once you noticed the bristles starting to look like this.

If the bristles start looking like this after only 1-2 months, try easing up on how hard you’re brushing your teeth.

The bristles will dig into your gums and sides of your teeth and start to cause conditions like recession and abrasion, which can be irreversible once the damage is done.

It’s also a good idea to always get a soft or extra soft toothbrush, as a medium or hard toothbrush can cause the same damaging effects.
