Hi everyone,
The Premier announced Alberta's restart plan on Thursday, April 30th. While we're cautiously optimistic about this announcement, there are a number of steps the dental industry must take before we can begin offering our typical procedures again. The first is lifting of the provincial government orders prohibiting certain activities which Premier Kenny announced will begin May 4th. The second step will be lifting of restrictions by our professional regulatory body - The Alberta Dental Association & College.
The second step has not yet taken place. As of right now, we still have no idea which orders and restrictions from the Alberta Dental Asssociation & College are being lifted and when. We listened to the announcement by the Premier and have read "Alberta's Relaunch Strategy" which mentions the resumption of dental services on May 4th and May 14th but the strategy also states that "resumption of services can only begin if dental clinics are in compliance with the rules and regulations of their regulatory bodies". Currently, the Alberta Dental Association & College has not yet provided us with their recommendations and restrictions regarding practicing dentistry in a COVID-19 world.
The third major factor will be learning and adapting to the restrictions on provision of care. We don’t know how clinic capacity, physical distancing and a myriad of other factors will need to be factored in. We’ve been working to address some of these factors, but there will certainly be more.
Fourth, we need sufficient stock of protective equipment to protect you and to protect our staff. This is perhaps the biggest challenge we face. We will be competing with the rest of the medical community for the supplies required to practice safe and responsible dentistry in light of COVID-19. Alberta has the tightest sterilization and disinfection protocols in the country (and most of the world), so rest assured that when we resume services, our number one goal is that those services are provided Safely.
Currently we are still restricted to emergency care only. If you're in pain or have an active dental infection, please let us know so that we can help you. We're checking our messages three times a day so if we don't answer your call when you make it, we will return your message in a timely manner. We're as eager to see you again as you are to take care of your oral health. As soon as we know more, we will update the info here and on our page. If you've been rescheduled or have a non-emergent procedure that you're eager to address, let us know and we will see you as soon as we are permitted to.
Thank you so much for your understanding and patience. Stay safe and stay healthy.
