Where do you go if your feeling unwell in the area?
The Muskoka Almaguin Ontario Health Team put together this great one-pager of resources for physical and mental health support in the area.
Did you know that your oral health is closely tied to your overall well-being? Your mouth acts as a window to the rest of your body, and bacteria from untreated oral infections or gum disease can enter the bloodstream, potentially triggering systemic inflammation and traveling to distant organs.
A few quick facts:
π§ Poor oral health is increasingly recognized as a significant risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia.
π«Research suggests that the inflammation caused by severe gum disease (periodontitis) may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
π« Harmful bacteria can accumulate in the mouth and be inhaled into the lungs, which may increase the risk of respiratory infections like pneumonia, especially in seniors
π§ Oral health and mental health share a deep, bidirectional connection. Poor dental hygiene and chronic oral pain can trigger stress, anxiety, and depression by affecting sleep and self-esteem. Conversely, mental health struggles often lead to the neglect of basic dental care, compounding into further oral decay.
