Let’s bust these myths 😊 a little knowledge for ya today.
#1. The yellow discoloration of your teeth is the most common sign of damaged enamel. This begs the question “does teeth whitening damage the enamel?” The answer is no, teeth whitening doesn’t damage your tooth enamel.
The main portion of the tooth, the dentin, is the portion of the tooth that’s responsible for your teeth’s color. The teeth are first coated with a whitening solution on the front surface of the tooth. The solution will then travel through the tooth enamel to the dentin. The stained tissue in the inner layer will begin to lighten. This process will take about an hour
2. False (in Dwight Shrute voice) getting your teeth professionally whitened doesn’t always make them sensitive. We use professional grade products and the the necessary measure to make sure that doesn’t happen.
3. I tel my clients to not eat or drink anything that can stain your teeth for 24 hours. Things such as Coffee, tea, dark soda’s or juice. Tomatoes, beets, red wine etc. If you’re like me and have to have coffee in the morning, I tell my clients to drink through a straw.
4. No, not anyone can whiten their teeth. People with crowns, veneers, will not get results. People with cracked or chipped teeth should not get heir teeth whitened. Pregnant/breastfeeding women, People with gum recession and exposed root. People with tooth decay, People under 16 should not have their teeth whitened. Talk to your dentist to see if teeth whitening is right for you if you are in any of those categories.
5. No, absolutely not. Having whiter teeth doesn’t mean they are healthy. The cosmetic appearance of teeth does not necessarily reflect what is going on in the mouth. White teeth may not have any outward signs of tooth decay, but that doesn’t mean the mouth is necessarily healthy. Just ask any dentist about the health problems caused by gum disease. Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause an infection of the teeth’s supportive tissues that can lead to tooth loss.
#6. No, teeth whitening and upkeep is totally up to the individual. All results will vary because we all live different lifestyles. Some people can have their results last up to, two years depending on how they take care of their teeth afterwards. While someone else’s results will last 3 months and they may choose to come back to get the service to achieve the desired shade.
