Did you know we accept new patients of all ages?

We love working with children and setting them on the right path for a lifetime of excellent oral hygiene. We love chatting with kids and teens about their favourite video games (even if we haven’t heard of them). And we love sitting down to catch up with our adult patients — it’s almost like a social call.

As always, we’re so appreciative when you refer your friends, neighbours, and colleagues to us when they’re looking for a new dental practice. Thank you!

There’s a connection between excessive gum chewing and headaches, according to a recent study on kids and teens that chewed gum between one and six hours a day. Many participants saw improvement with their chronic headaches when stopping their daily habit. Still, we recommend spitting out your gum once the flavour is gone.

When shopping for a new toothbrush, look for one with soft bristles. Some people assume that medium or hard bristles provide more cleaning power, but they can end up damaging your gums and enamel. Soft bristles are gentler on your teeth and gums and the bristles are flexible, making it easier to clean under the gumline.

Plaque is the sticky, germy mixture that forms on your teeth every day (especially where your teeth and gums meet).

If you fail to clean off plaque, it hardens into tartar — plaque and tartar can cause an infection called gingivitis. Yikes!

Don’t worry, though, because the most effective way to stop plaque in its tracks is by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. You’ve got this!

Contouring and bonding can address gaps between your teeth, a rough tooth surface, a chipped tooth, or the shape of your teeth. These processes can even improve the health of your teeth by smoothing away crevices or overlaps where plaque can build up.

If you work in a school, your benefits year isn't the calendar year.

Most Ontario education plans — ETFO, OSSTF, OECTA, CUPE education workers — run September 1 to August 31. So whatever dental coverage you haven't used this year quietly resets on the 1st. It doesn't roll over, and you don't get it back.

Depending on your plan, that can mean a cleaning and exam you've already paid for through your premiums, plus a few thousand dollars toward the filling, crown or night guard you've been meaning to deal with since March.

You have until August 31.

We're downtown at 421 St. Paul Street, and we still have appointments before the reset.

What are shark teeth? Shark teeth refer to a child having two rows of teeth in their mouth: the original primary teeth (baby teeth) and the incoming permanent teeth. If your child is experiencing this, give us a call, and we’ll take a look to make sure your child’s teeth are growing in properly.
