Summers were made for sleeping in, sticky popsicles and sweet treats… now as we gently return to new routines, your oral hygiene is a beautiful place to start!
Here and some of Dr. Proulx’s top recommendations for oral health:
💧 skip the juice or milk and opt for water in those lunches! Water helps keep the mouth hydrated and rinse away and sugars from your food and snacks. You’re also helping protect your child’s teeth with fluoridated water!
🍎 crunchy, whole food snacks do more than prevent cavities! Did you know that taking big, crunchy bites can help regulate your child’s brain and promotes better jaw and muscle development? This can tie into sleep, closed mouth posture and more! Plus, chewing naturally cleans teeth and stimulates more saliva for natural cleaning effects.
🏈 if your child is joining a new team or sport, it’s worth chatting with your dentist about a custom mouthguard to protect their teeth and reduce concussion risks.
🥪 sticky, chewy snacks that can hang around in the mouth can contribute to cavities. But let’s be real, in the coming months, we will just be glad if they come home having eaten what we put in those lunch boxes!
