Hello, this is Dr. Chung posting again after some time.

As most of you know, I have become a father since January 2022. Time for sure flies when I have more responsibilities at home. My son, Nathan, is already 8 months old!

As Nathan grows, he requires more and more attention from me. I also feel obliged to spend more time with my family, so that I can share more responsibilities taking care of them. As a result, in order to achieve a fine balance between my family obligation as a father/husband, and my professional obligation as a dentist providing quality care to my patients, I have to make the difficult decision of changing our operating hours to the following.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday – regular appointments are available from 9am to 6pm (last regular appointment will be at 5:30pm). Time from 6pm to 7pm will be reserved for same-day emergencies (such a pain and infection control). When you call in to seek urgent care and there are no same-day time slots from 9am to 6pm, we will assess your situation and see if we can put you into the 6pm to 7pm time slot.

Wednesday, Saturday – regular appointments are available from 9am to 3pm (last regular appointment will be at 2:30pm). Similar as above, time from 3pm to 4pm will be reserved for same-day emergencies. In addition, time after 3pm on Wednesdays will be available for larger procedures/surgeries (such as implants, multiple crowns or bridge preparations, difficult root canal therapies that requires longer appointment length). Again, we will assess your case individually to see if we can put you into the post-3pm time slot.
Lastly, whenever possible, we will be closed on the Saturday that is within a long weekend.

These policies will be enforced after my extended leave from October 8 to October 16. Existing appointments that are beyond these policies will still be fulfilled, in order to minimize the impact of these changes.

The new operating hours are set up so that I do not have to return home too late during weekdays, and I can run some errands/spend more time with my family during Wednesdays and weekends. I am fully aware that some of you may feel disappointed that I cannot provide late after-hour appointments anymore. Nevertheless, my responsibilities as a father/husband are just as important as taking care of my patients. I apologize for any inconveniences caused and I beg for your understanding regarding these changes.

Hello Everyone,

As you can see from the photo, I have become a dad since January 11, 2022! Unfortunately, due to many different reasons, I have yet to see my wife and son since they are actually overseas. I am in the long and painful process (due to different quarantine requirements and pandemic-related policies) of meeting them and bringing them back to Canada. As a result, I am unable to be in the office until I am back, hopefully in early April.

During this period, Hazel, our very best receptionist, will be taking phone calls, answering any questions during weekdays. I am also available through WhatsApp (+1-778-792-9813) to remotely address any concerns. In addition, on most Wednesdays, we have a temporary dentist in the office to provide emergency care.

I apologize for this drastic reduction in service. I will do my best to resume normal operation as early as possible and will keep you guys updated.

Thank you,
Dr. Marco Chung

To my wife and son – I am going to bring you two back home very, very soon!

Good news! We will be resuming our regular services after the Victoria Day long weekend. Our office will be running at about 50% capacity at this time to allow adequate time to disinfect/sterilize our area and instruments, and to integrate social distancing principles into our practice. In addition, we will follow closely to the trend of the pandemic as our province starts to open up. Once we determine that we can continuously provide a safe environment for our patients and staff, and the curve continues to be flat, we will begin operating at a higher capacity.

In the coming period, we will start contacting patients who we missed in the past two months to reschedule their appointments. Emergency patients who we have seen during this period will also be contacted if follow-ups are necessary. We will prioritize our patient scheduling based on the urgency of care that the patient requires. Nevertheless, we will try our best to schedule our patients in a safe, efficient manner.

As always, while our province is slowly opening up, the pandemic is not over yet! Be careful and we will adapt to the “new normal” together.

Stay safe, and we will see you soon!

To my two cats, Zero and Rosie – I won’t be able to be at home as much as during the past two months, so please take care of your mom (my wife), and don’t mess up our home~~

Can’t believe that in the past month and half, we had to manage a lot of our patient’s issues and concern using my phone instead of our usual instruments and tools. I would like to thank everyone from bearing with our limited services during this difficult period.

As our Premier mentioned in his address yesterday afternoon, resumption of regular dental services is in Phase 2 of BC’s Restart Plan, meaning that we may be able to open again for regular services by mid/late May. We do not have a solid date yet as our Government is still monitoring the situation closely to determine when we can provide care safely to the public. Once we know the exact date, we will let everyone know.

Between now and when we can open fully, we will prepare the clinic and ourselves so that we can safely provide care to the public. At the same time, we will continue to provide emergency care and take calls from everyone. Hence, just like before, please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions and concerns. We will continue to do our best to answer your questions and manage your conditions remotely.

I guess I will have to hold onto my phone for a little bit longer…

Lastly, please do not forget that the pandemic is not over yet! We still have to do our best to fight it. Eventually, we are going to win!

Stay safe everyone!

Took this picture outside of my apartment this Sunday afternoon, beautiful sky isn't it? While it is tempting to head out and enjoy the weather for a bit, it is important to remember to practice proper social distancing and, whenever possible, stay home so that we can work together to fight against COVID-19. The better we can achieve this, the faster we can go back to our normal lives.

While the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia strongly recommends us to stop providing routine, non-urgent and elective procedures at this time in order to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission, our phone line is still available. If you have any questions, concerns, or issues regarding your oral health, feel free to call us! We will do our best to answer your questions and manage your conditions remotely.

Let us stay strong and get through this difficult period together!
