Great account to help you stay accountable Clean hands, dirty hands… pick a lane

Tiny habits make or break infection control. With suction line maintenance, name what is clean and what is dirty and live by it. My CleanStream dispenser from Air Techniques has parts that sit on the floor to finish the draw… that makes those areas dirty by default. The handled area stays clean if and only if it has not touched the floor or a dirty surface.

Set your rules now
• Floor contact equals dirty, gloved hands only, or disinfect before it touches anything
• Decide which areas are always clean and which are always dirty, then label them
• Do not grab the dispenser with the same dirty gloves you used to wipe the operatory
• If a “clean” part gets touched with dirty gloves, it is dirty until cleaned and disinfected

This is not nitpicking. This is how cross contamination sneaks in during tasks you think you are doing right. Get specific, write it into the SOP, label it, and watch the recontamination drop.
